Reid's average pass attempts per game is 34. When Alex Smith has been asked to throw that many or more he is 3-13. That number also kind of baffles me that he has only throw 34 or more passes only 16 times his entire career. Just for some comparsion, Matt Barkley in 4 years at USC has done it 27 times including 10 his junior year. His junior year he went 9-1. That's pretty damn impressive stat, for his entire career he is 17-10. If that was projected into the NFL, he would be a 10-6 QB and Marty Schottenheimer would be proud.

*Disclosure
I chose Barkley just for the comparsion because he does run a NFL style west coast attack which would be similar to what Reid runs. The Air Raid that Geno runs throws a shit ton so it would be a skewed number IMO. |

I have heard this one a few times but it comes from the media being just lazy and not looking for context. Crabtree had a very similar increase in yards last year 2012 1st half 440 yards (alex) 2nd half 665 yards (kaep) 2011 1st 8 games 335 yards (Smith) 2nd 7 games 539 yards (smith) Plus a big part of the yardage differential came in week 17 when he had 172 yards against the cardinals that already had their lockers cleared out ready to get out of town. BTW on the whole QB comparison thing they both had exactly 122 atempts on the season Alex had 1737 yards passing and Kaep had 1814 yards passing thats a grand total of 78 yards or 9.75 yards per game all the extra yard going to Crabtree were just at the expense of the other receivers which wasnt a big deal until Kaep changed the play call at the line 3 times to try to force the go ahead td in the SB to his favorite guy. Also look at what happened to the rushing game after he was inserted. Even with Kaeps incredible running ability the 9ers rushed for just 1142 rushing yard in the 8 games under kaep and they rushed for 1349 yards under Smith, Frank Gores rushing avg went from 5.5 ypc behind Smith to 4.0 behind Kaep. Opposing defenses put extra men in the box against Kaep 1 because he wasnt yet proven as a passer and 2 because the need the extra guys up front to try to handle his running ability. Defenses literally never had extra men in the box vs Smith even with the 9ers fierce running attack why do you think that is especially when most ignorant fans think he cant throw deep? He can throw deep very well he is one of the most accurate deep ball throwers in the game today. did you know that smith actually had better stats when he did throw deep than Kaep? The biggest reason there were the statistical gaps in big passing attempts was because of the way the defenses played the 9ers. Harbaugh just wanted to get his guy in and if he didnt do it when he did he would have had an extremely difficult time convincing management to replace smith in the off season. He may be right in the future Kaep may change the NFL but I still believe that he made the wrong choice for this year Last edited by thePhoenix; 03-03-2013 at 03:20 AM.. |

He had 88 yards per game with Kaep and 53 yards per game with Smith.
That is a huge difference, and so is double the TDs. Keep ****ing that chicken!

Also you quoted a bunch of meaningless stats.
Meaningless because the 49ers scored a lot more points with Kaepernick. Keep ****ing that chicken.

Kaeps quick strike offense also had a negative effect on the defense because despite the fact that they stepped up and started getting more take aways they were on the field for many more plays per game |

And he didn't score nearly as many TDs. And his YPC didn't go up as high as it did with Kaepernick. And your passing game wasn't really any better. You're wrong. Alex Smith must die.
