Doesn't feel like the season should be winding down, but only ~16 games left. Sad to see the Avalanche at the bottom of the conference... thought they had some potential, and they might be playing worse now that they're relatively healthy.

It's the curse of Erik Johnson.

Setting aside every contribution Chris Stewart has ever made to the Blues, I'd take Shattenkirk straight up for Johnson every single day. Johnson's just a losing player and it's no coincidence that teams that try to lean on him tend to suck.

7-12-1 in the 20 games he's played for 15 points.
4-4-3 in the 11 game he hasn't for 11 points.

If the Avs played at their 'non-Johnson' pace all season, they'd be sitting 3 points out of the playoffs. They'd be mediocre, sure - but not awful.

I'd honestly cut him outright just to keep from having to pay him. His salary is way out of whack with his production and the salary cap is going to go down in the NHL next season, IIRC.

Not to defend him, but those numbers could be deceiving with all of the other injuries they've had... IIRC, he got hurt around the same time Landeskog came back. They've mostly struggled since EJ came back though (around the time they beat Chicago, I think), and oddly enough, that's around the time O'Reilly was signed, too. I didn't like EJ for a while, but it seemed like he was getting better as the season went on last year... he was back to doing some pretty dumb things earlier this season, but I haven't been watching lately. They pretty much suck at everything right now, and I thought they would at least be able to score goals.
