Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 21, 2013, 6:46 PM EDT
Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

The dude's pretty ****ing good. I'd trade our entire 2013 draft for Flacco.
Care to elaborate on that? He played against the Pats, who had one of the worst defenses in the league, the niners, who had one of the worst defenses statistically in the playoffs, and wasnt the same after week 14 when justin smith got hurt. The falcons, packers, and ravens passed at will on the 49ers.

I vehemently disagree with Andy Reid, then. Loading up on free agent replacements and trading for backups from other teams to start at QB like a coked-up whore is never a good idea for sustained success in this league.

And I've seen enough middle tier Chiefs teams. I've seen dozens of them. They're even more ****ing heart-breaking and disappointing than 4-12/2-14 pieces of shit. 8-8 teams don't have any direction. They're enigmas, and they are rarely in a good position to make the necessary changes to become an elite team one day.

I don't give one flying **** about seeing the Chiefs go 8-8. If they're not going to do anything right away, then **** it. Build slowly and methodically, and for God's sake stop pissing away draft picks on Alex Smiths.

This regime had no choice but to bring in FA's to clean up Pioli's mess. There was no depth or anything on this team.

This is a compliment coming from you.

I'm sure Reid's goal is the super bowl, but 7,8, and 9 wins is about the most he's going to get with Alex Smith and Luke Joeckel.

They didnt extend alex smith. Alex Smith has a very team friendly contract for a qb. That gives him 2 years to find and develop his own qb. The same exact thing that the 49ers did. YOu cant see that as a successful plan?

The contract I don't care about. The two high draft picks is terrible.

I see it as a successful plan if Reid gets a great Colin Kaepernick. So far I see Geno Smith and Matt Barkley who are remotely capable of filling that role. MAYBE Glennon or Manuel. We won't have a shot at Nassib and don't seem to be interested.

I don't want some shitty Zac Dysert piece of crap that will just Ricky Stanzi for awhile.

What qb this year draft trade or free agent was going to get the chiefs to a super bowl, super douche. NONE. He took the best option to bring stability to the Chiefs this year, while building for the future. Yeah, does it suck that there is no franchise changing player to be drafted at one. And as I stated when i first got here, which was the first day that alex smith was traded here, there is not a clear cut difference between the first qb in this draft class and the 10th. And im being proven right by the fact that you dont even know WHEN the first qb is going to go, or who its going to be. So, **** your face, you have no idea what the hell it takes to build a successful franchise. But john dorsey, and andy reid both do.......

If you are able to swing Albert, who they clearly DO not want, for a second, either 42, or 54, you can get that second round guy, and you would have to believe that is the plan. The draft picks, arent all of that anyways. They are a crap shoot. Alex Smith is a proven player, who brings far more to the stability and grooming part of playing a qb, than as a play maker, which for andy reid, this year is probably enough while they feel out what they have as a roster, and gives his qb of choice time to develop. Hell, for all we know, they could take Scott in the third round. He definetly seems like the type of qb that Andy Reid has taken a shine too lately. That wouldnt be a bad get either.

If you think a light bulb has gone off and that Joe Flacco is going to play like he did in the playoffs with regularity now, then you'd be right to disagree with me. If not, then it's proof that you don't have to have an elite QB to win a super bowl. And if you don't need an elite QB, you don't need an elite anything.
