The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

The Dolphins would be wise to wait and see if a tackle fall to them. If not, then they can trade with the chiefs now that the trade demands have been put on the table. I guess the only thing that could happen is the chiefs could up the ante at that point, but I don't think they would once they stated what it would take to get BA.

once Miami doesn't have any other quality options the price very well might go up.

Significantly. At that point, you are basically trading for a QB; without a solid LT, your QB, in all likelihood, will wind up on IR sooner or later.

If the LTs go 1,2 and 3......I'd call the Dolphins and tell them that I want both of their 2nd round picks for Albert. If not.....they can go **** themselves.

If Joeckel is worth that much more than Fisher then the Chiefs should definitely take Joeckel regardless.

So, it really boils down to this: Miami can give up a 2 for a guy that is pretty solid, but may have long term injury concerns, or, they can give up a couple of two's and maybe another pick, or a one and a two, to move up a few spots to get a young but unproven LT. Not a dilemma I'd want to be in.
