It's not that Holland came in to close. It's that he came in for a pitcher who was in complete control of his game, and was only at 102. He was fun to watch today. Dude is a STUD!

stupid move by Yost IMO. You ask the pitcher if he's tired...if not he's pitching well and you let him go back out there. He just let Guthrie go the distance and Shields supposedly today avg only 1 more pitch per inning.

Shields won't be here long term, esp if he keeps pitching like this. It's time to win now...this is why we traded ****ing Wil Myers. Get the absolute most as you possibly can out of Shields before he's gone.

Of course lets not forget the 1000lb gorilla sitting in the room which is this team's inability to hit the long ball. If you're going to play small ball and win w/ pitching then you're going to see a lot of games like this. Many we've been fortunate enough to come back from behind. Eventually that kind of mojo is going to stop and those games we're just going to end up losing because our bats won't move any runners, esp towards the bottom of the lineup w/ Getz and French

Meh, still think we are walking a fine edge. I've seen too much that says it's a matter of time. Going back to the big come back against the Rays, yesterday and today. Not to mention the day after the Philly game that Holland blew.

Just don't have a closer that can put his foot on someone's throat.

I agree but still Shields should've had the opportunity to at least see how he started the inning,I mean it's not like he hadn't already had a game this season with more than 102 pitches.

Sometimes I think Yost just feels like he has to be involved when he should just let the players do what they're paid to do.

You realize that guys like Mariano Rivera - lights out guys who almost never wobble and are elite time after time, year after year - are the extreme exception, right?

Greg Holland has elite stuff and has been above-average in the closer's role (He's 25-29 in that role, a nearly 90 percent conversion rate, which really is better than just "above-average."

I don't know. I can't scream too much at Yost. He'll, if Getz makes that play in the 9th, its a win.

In fact, Getz and Francoeur on the roster upset me far more than Yost's managing in this game. I think there are cheap alternatives available that would be significant upgrades.

Frenchy needs to be platooned. That's all there is to it. And, Getz doesn't do enough at the plate to hold a mlb job.

No, we really didn't. 1 run in 11 innings is not enough to win ballgames regardless of what Yost and Holland produced in that 9th. You will win probably 5% of the games you score 1 run in. The offense allowed them to keep that tight until they could tie it late.

Yes Sale is good. And no we are not hitting for power against pitchers not named Sale.

This team sorely needs another veteran bat with some pop. Moose and Hosmer are not ready to carry the team.

I don't think you automatically pull a veteran ace in a 1 run game without atleast asking Shields if he wanted to close it out. His pitch count was at 102 and he was a proven dominating pitcher that day. Anyone else you bring in for the 9th is an unknown.

You give your ace starters the chance when they are dominant in a possible 1 run lead shutout.

Should have won this game, but at the end of the day, it's asking a lot for an entire staff to be this fine. 1 run just doesn't ****ing cut it.

Even shit bums like Getz run into a pitch once every 900 ABs or so.

Well yes technically I guess....but its a little like Martyball kicking FGs instead of scoring TDs. Don't keep yourself in a position where one mistake will cost you the game. The Royals need more power more than they need another arm.
