If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.

A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way.

First, I actually doubt it, although there's a decent chance that for just this season but who cares? This year is a write off regardless. I'd have much rather it be spent getting a young QB some experience or finding some other guy to fill the role for a year while they groom the rookie. A guy they didn't give up what could be 2 2nd rounders for. I could care less if somehow they win a Wild Card spot, win the division, or whatever. It won't be because Alex Smith suddenly elevated the team to greatness, and he won't be leading them anywhere meaningful anytime before any rookie like would have. He's a backup that because our front office is too chickenshit to take a chance on a rookie decided they'd rather screw up our drafts to go with the best option, and likely throw 2-3 years away trotting this mediocre guy out trying to "win now". Then watch, we'll probably trade two 1st round picks for Romo.

This, holy hell. There is no inkling that Alex Smith will be anything close to what Green was.

We're going to start Chase Daniel at QB for at least one game, folks. Just think about that for a second. It doesn't seem so bad to us because we survived 5 games of Tyler ****ing Palko. To a normal non-desensitized NFL fan, however, that is a bone-chilling thought.
It was actually 3 but it sure felt like a full season.

That's a bar for the difference between a 2nd and a 3rd in a draft that was one year away. It's not the Reid/Dorsey bright line of success. It's also not something that Reid/Dorsey had the power to unilaterally dictate. It was the result of a negotiation. Good grief.

The sacks will be upsetting. But as long as he doesn't turn the ball over and makes plays it will even out. It did with the 49ers.

If we go 7-9 this season we get to keep our second round pick but do we still have to give up a third round pick? If we go 8-8 or better the third becomes a second? If we go less than 8-8 we still have to give up a third right?

The worst part?

When Adam Schefter said that no other team was willing to part with 2 draft picks for Smith and we give up 2 second round picks...and there are still people defending rape in today's day and age.

If the trade had been this year's 2nd and a 2nd next year that could escalate into a 1st if the Chiefs win a Super Bowl, would you have been happier because it showed that it was Super Bowl or nothing for these guys? Come on.

I'm not defending it. But giving a 2nd in this draft isn't the worst thing, next year's too? That sucks but **** it. Lets win some games man. Sick of looking like a shit team.

Wasn't it like 2 weeks before the rumors said they'd agreed on the trade that they were saying nobody was interested at all, even for like a single 4th round pick? I remember there was one report that said the 49ers checked around and found zero interest.

I've never lived in Kansas or Missouri. I don't give a shit about the border war that the two teams used to share. KU is my favorite college basketball team because they win, and as a Chiefs, Timberwolves, and Royals fan I think I'm allowed to cheer for a goddamn ****ing winner once in awhile, wouldn't you say? I don't give a shit about former Mizzou players just as I don't give a shit about former KU players in the NFL. And the same kind of goes for the NBA, too. I wish former Jayhawks the best, but I don't follow their professional careers closely or anything.

Chase Daniel is an unacceptable option for those game(s) when Alex Smith will be injured because what the **** has Chase Daniel ever ****ing done in the NFL? Nothing. He was looked to as the Saints' starting QB for one goddamn preseason. He's never started an NFL game. He's not exactly young and promising like a rookie backup would be. His upside in the NFL is that he's streaky and tries really hard and isn't really terrible at any one thing. He's a midget with an average/below average arm, who bounced from team to team to team for many years as an undrafted guy until the Saints for some reason let him stick around at the bottom of the depth chart. Last year it just so happened to be his "turn" to be primary backup.

He's just like Graham Harrell of the Packers, except the Packers signed Harrell and stuck with him. They didn't just pick him off some garbage heap. Even so, if Harrell were my back up QB, I'd be pretty freaking nervous if my starter ever went down. Luckily for the Packers, Aaron Rodgers doesn't have quite the injury or concussion history that Alex Smith does. The Chiefs... not so much.

You and other Mizzou fans have such a short ****ing fuse about this kind of garbage that it gets really annoying to talk about anything. Chase Daniel is a mystery box. We don't know what he's going to give us, but we know that the upside he brings is very low. It's kind of like the excitement of gambling, except when you win on Chase Daniel, you get a stale chocolate chip cookie instead of money. You Mizzou fans have no ****ing clue if he's Tyler Palko or Tony Romo. He's most likely not at either end of the spectrum, but let's not pretend that he's this brilliant asset to have on our QB squad. ANY of the 2013 QBs who were drafted would serve as a far better back up QB than Chase Daniel. And before you disagree, I highly recommend you check your homermeter.

Don't see why that'd be the case. Teams that needed QBs this year did little to improve themselves at that position. I'd take what we did over Arizona, Buffalo, NYJ, Cleveland, and Oakland.

Seriously.

It's crazy that you can't understand how disappointing the triggers are in that comp pick.

Nobody would give a **** if the trigger was a playoff appearance.

Does that mean you would prefer to give up a 2nd that escalates to a 1st in the event of a Super Bowl win instead of a 3rd that escalates to a 2nd in the event of an 8-8 record? You apparently don't know how ridiculous you guys sound when you say that this means Reid/Dorsey are satisfied with 8-8.
