If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.
A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.
So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way. The only way to break down the 3rd down rushing/3rd down passing conversions is to go through the play-by-play for each game and see what type of play was run. I don't have time - and am not interested enough - to do that for 16 2011 games and 8 2012 games. I've already gone through the game by game for 3rd downs in 2012 to get to the 37.5 figure. As far as finding general down conversion stats... here If a team has a poor 3rd down conversion percentage

Combined 2011 and 2012 3rd Down Conversion Rate with Alex Smith as the starting QB for San Francisco:
31.8 percent.

Just like other people said on here... what better QB was there for the taking? There are really only two choices here.. since it seems clear that you and others are not totally giving up on following your team. (1) put some hope and faith into your new HC and give Alex a chance before screaming about the sky falling. (2) go into this season jaded, kicking and screaming hate.. just on the chance that you may be RIGHT... and if you take the latter avenue? Then win or lose.. ya kind of lose. |

"Frank Gore faced eight defenders in the box more than any other running back last season.
Simply put, defenses didn't respect Alex Smith. Gore saw a stacked box 42.3 percent of the time, nearly double the league average of 23.3 percent. He still averaged 4.71 yards per carry and ranked 10th in the league with 1,214 rushing yards. Now that Colin Kaepernick will have a full offseason under his belt as the starter and Anquan Boldin has been added, the passing game will have to be respected more. Gore should see more seven-man fronts in 2013." http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3205/frank-gore |

Rotoworld's always had a healthy hate for Alex. Oh well.. like I said, live and learn.
Gonna be a fun season watching KC games. Too bad others can't put their defense mechanisms aside to find the excitement that football brings. Your choice. |
