Patriots' Hernandez Questioned By Police in Homicide Probe

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was questioned by police investigating a possible homicide in this town 40 miles south of Boston. A source with knowledge of the investigation said Massachusetts State police spoke to Hernandez on Monday and were interested in possibly searching his home.

Hernandez is not believed to be a murder suspect, according to a source, but a vehicle rented in his name has emerged as a key piece of evidence in the investigation. The Sun Chronicle of Attleboro, Mass., reported on Tuesday that police identified a rented 2013 Chevrolet Suburban with Rhode Island license plates in connection with the possible homicide. According to the paper, the vehicle is registered to Enterprise and investigators were hoping to analyze it for fingerprints. A source said Hernandez's name is tied to that rental vehicle.

A jogger found the body of a 27-year-old Boston man on Monday in an North Attleboro clearing, less than a mile from Hernandez's home.

A North Attleboro police car idled in front of Hernandez's home on Tuesday, parked across the street from two television news vans. Yasmina Serdarevic, a spokesperson for the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, declined comment on Tuesday afternoon when contacted by SI.com.

A source close to Hernandez confirmed that the player had spoken with authorities in connection with case, but would not elaborate. Athletes First, Hernandez's agency, declined comment when contacted by SI.com. Hernandez has consulted with a lawyer, who did not return a call from SI.com.

A fourth-round pick in the 2010 draft, Hernandez was named to the Pro Bowl in his second season. Last season he caught 51 passes and scored five touchdowns for the Patriots.

Aaron Hernandez, the former star New England Patriot tight end who had been at the center of an investigation after a body was found near his Massachusetts home, was charged Wednesday with the murder of a semi-professional football player .
Hernandez did not react in the Attleboro District courthouse that was packed with journalists, victim family members and court officers.
Hernandez was arrested by state police and the North Attleboro Police Department Wednesday morning at his home in the town of Attleboro.
Police entered the home at 8:45 a.m. and about two minutes later, came out with a handcuffed Hernandez. The tight end was wearing a white V-neck T-shirt, with his arms inside the shirt and behind his back. He casually spit into some bushes on his way to the car.
About two hours after news of his arrest, the Patriots announced his release.
"Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process," the team's statement said.
Phone messages left earlier by FoxNews.com for Hernandez's lawyer and the Bristol District Attorney's Office were not immediately returned.
In recent days, law enforcement searched near both Hernandez's home and the industrial park where Odin Lloyd's body was found. At least three search warrants have been issued in connection with the investigation.
Lloyd, 27, was a semi-pro football player for the Boston Bandits who was reportedly found dead on June 17 with multiple gunshot wounds.
Lloyd's family says he was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee. They say the two men were friends and were out together on the last night of Lloyd's life. Lloyd's mother, Ursula Ward, declined to comment at her Boston home Wednesday morning.
"Nothing to say, please. Thank you," she said, before shutting the door.

No, you were called a moron because you claimed the Pats helped him cover up the Florida shooting even though Hernandez was never mentioned in a police report because the guy said someone else did it.

The only time he was linked to that was when the law suit was filed in court which is something the Pats couldn't cover up if they wanted to.

Further more, nothing has been presented that shows the Pats knew jack or shit about any of this until any of it has happened including the murder charges. Maybe they were told last night or this morning, who cares?

While the move came as a surprise, the Patriots had a plan.

They remained quiet, as they always do. But they knew all along what they would do when the time came.

Per a league source, the Patriots decided early in the process that, if Hernandez is arrested for crime allegedly occurring in connection with a murder or an investigation of a murder, he will be released.

While it’s possible the Patriots know more about the facts, circumstances, and allegations than the general public, it doesn’t matter. If/when Hernandez would be arrested, he would be getting cut.

And what a contrast that creates when compared to the way the Ravens treated linebacker Ray Lewis, who was charged with murder and then pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice 13 years ago. The Ravens unconditionally supported and defended Lewis, culminating in coach Brian Billick angrily telling reporters in the days preceding Super Bowl XXXV that they’re “not qualified” to even ask questions about the situation.

The Patriots, alternatively, have decided quickly and summarily that Hernandez is not qualified to continue working for them. It’s a decision that was made, we’re told, at the top of the organization, and it’s a standard that the team would apply to any other player or employee facing similar circumstances.
