I've got nothing against the Manning's, but your above argument is bullshit. That is such a bad precedent to set and a bad message to send. The draft is set up so the poor teams the year before get the first chance at the elite players. What if there would have been an Andrew Luck or RG3 available in this years draft and they would have proclaimed that they would refuse to play for KC because KC has never developed their own QB? That could damage KC's chances at success for years.
What Eli and his family did at the draft was selfish and I wish San Diego would have called their bluff. If players are going to refuse to play for certain teams, why even have a draft? Just make all players free agents.
