Jeremy Maclin

Maclin becomes a free agent after this season, and of course you have the Andy Reid connection and the Missouri connection (He's originally from St. Louis).

Things might have aligned for him to be a bargain, he suffered the knee injury this year in training camp and is on IR.

Maclin would give us a lot of utility in the downfield passing game and he would be able to help as a kick returner. His base salary this season is just under $3 million. He's appeared in 59 games at the NFL level and has 26 touchdowns. Certainly he'll get a raise since he'll only be 26 and has produced well at the NFL level, but he should be affordable in terms of his production.

I don't think you need to be a Mizzou homer to feel like Maclin would be a good signing and a great fit for us.

I don't know what it is about Smith...seems like an odd choice for these guys to pin their hopes and dreams on.

Except I still don't give a ****. And no its not what I'm thinking. Did you not read my earlier posts? I said put talent around the guy and give him a shot.

Don't be so quick to fall on a grenade for Alex. Read and process my posts first.

It's not that simple. It's not just the Oline and it's not just Alex. They came out with a deep ball against DEN and Alex missed Avery by what might as well have been a mile. If he hits a wide open Wilson deep against PIT that came would have been completely different.

Unfortunately for KC the two things you need to throw deep don't really exist on the team. Hell, 3 things if you include WR.

We have WRs that can threaten deep. We have an offensive line that isn't consistent and a QB that won't take the shots.

Pretty sure it DID work out well for Harbaugh until this season.

He benched Alex in 2012, and the 49ers got to the Superbowl.

Alex was traded in 2013 and they went to the NFCCG.

How was that not working out well again?

When you get beat by a rival coach (Pete Carroll) again and again I'm pretty sure it didn't sit well with him. He had a 5 year contract and it ended in 4.

I'm with you on that. Torrey Smith would be a great get. And if they fix the offensive line and bring in some WRs then you're right in that Alex will have no more excuses. But we can't simply ignore those glaring issues. It's not all on Alex. IMO, his play will improve (quite possibly a dramatic improvement) if these things happen. Look, he was not my first choice but we stuck with him (for now). My only option is to hope he improves with improved offensive line talent and WRs.
