*.* 2013 General Fitness Thread *.*
Welcome to 2013! Now get your ass in top physical condition!
**From the 2012 Thread** If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs If you have questions about the SS programs, look here: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started. Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE: http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point. |

Anybody ever done a show? Muscle Mayhem in KC is in June. I'm thinking of doing it once just to get it off my bucket list and tell my grandkids about one day

A week before Thanksgiving I quit drinking caffeine. The first of December I started a workout regimen. Since then my blood pressure has been going up.
I have no idea what is going on. I'm doing the things you're supposed to do to reduce blood pressure and it is going the wrong way. Is it normal to increase blood pressure when you start a workout? |

The other thing is I'm using a fairly cheap wrist reader thing from Walgreens. It may be wrong, but it's been fairly consistent. Wife has been using it too, and it has been pretty consistent with the Doctors office. But she hasn't been using it very often and it could be variability. |

Yep, you just being super nervous during the reading can affect the results. Give it more than a few weeks.

Avg is probably 145/82 ish. Before it was probably 125/75. Weight is down probably 5 lb in a month and 10 down since September. However, the regimen is dramatically harder than what I was doing before. |

Nitric oxide. I think it's Arginine or something like that they use in most of those products. Celery seed extract has some science backing it but I would see a doc and try to find the underlying problem instead of treating the symptom. Your case seems odd given that much of a jump and you've also lost weight which in theory should cause it to go down.
The workouts shouldn't raise it on a 24 hour basis like that. See a doc but try to figure out the cause before jumping on meds. Could be stress, lack of sleep, or anything. |

There have been some days that I didn't sleep well, but I've made a concerted effort to increase my sleep hours and it hasn't helped the BP much. The only other thing I have going is a sore shoulder. I had a really sore back for a couple weeks early in December, but I've got that lined up. Initially I thought that's what the problem was, but the pain is a lot less now than it was initially, but the blood pressure hasn't responded. |
