Chiefs release KeiVarae Russell

Rand Gettlin-I'm told the #Chiefs have released defensive back KeiVarae Russell. Special teams numbers game. Super talented player. Likely to be claimed.

I'm pretty sure he didn't come back from that injury the same, and was no longer worthy of a roster spot.

Really hard to believe that they apparently missed so badly with thi draft selection. To just barely make it through preseason and then get cut? Gotta review that Decision Lens software for a bug of the highest order! Nonetheless, kudos to Dorsey for quickly admitting a draft fail. This actually gives me more hope for Dee Ford!

I own his Av and sig, since the PO win, for a full year.

Bet was made early 2015.

I guess you can see what you want to see, but none of the defenders had a chance at him due to exquisite blocking (minus Parker Ehinger, hilariously enough). I think any WR on the roster would have scored.

In fact if you look at the end zone view, he has so much room to work with it's insane:

Clay is one seriously stubborn poster. Regardless of the countless times he has been wrong and its on pretty much everything, all the time, he just keeps putting his terrible football opinions out there.

So in effect, the Chiefs gave away an additional year of team control of Chris Jones for....nothing. Nothing at all. And that's what I hated about that trade down to begin with.

It wasn't Chris Jones, it was that if you really think Jones is a player, you just take him in the first and leverage the value of the player option to save yourself a shitload in the long-run. Agents are digging their heels in on franchise numbers now that they've gotten so high. The franchise tag isn't going to be much of a benefit for teams going forward. So if you can't get guys extended early, you're stuck fighting in the market for them.

One way to help get that extension is the threat of the 5th year option (see Fisher's deal, and Fisher's deal was even harder because the 5th year option for him was more than twice what it would be for a late first rounder).

The trade down failed.
49ers receive:

» 2016 seventh-round pick (No. 249): Prince Charles Iworah

» 2016 fourth-round pick (No. 105): Parker Ehinger
» 2016 sixth-round pick (No. 178): D.J. White

Buccaneers receive:
» 2016 second-round pick (No. 59): Roberto Aguayo

Chiefs receive:
» 2016 third-round pick (No. 74): KeiVarae Russell
» 2016 fourth-round pick (No. 106): Eric Murray

It was a simple exercise to look at what the draft would have looked like, based on the decisions made during those three days and slotted those guys.

That's easy in theory but tough in practice.

Well run organizations with extra picks generally find more talent than those with lessor picks, due to the hit and miss nature of the draft.

Look no further than 2016 as proof, with the Chiefs apparently hitting on DJ White yet missing on Russell.

The draft is far from an exact science and I'm elated that the Chiefs finally have a front office that's willing to create the best roster possible each year, regardless of whether it's a "bad look", as the dipshit Adam Teicher has suggested.

What did Ehinger do wrong? The only guy that puts his hands on him was blocked by Maclin.

Bullshit.

It wasn't even a good pass. It was high and to his left. And he wasn't running so how did he catch it in stride?

nothing. just didn't contribute to the play, which I find a little funny since he's the one OL I've singled out in this thread.
