PS3 vs. XBOX 360

I'm thinking about buying one of these systems, but am not sure which one to buy.

My last system was a PS2, but backwards compatibility isn't an issue for me. Also, I don't think I care much about Blu-Ray.

I'm mostly in to sports games...Madden, etc. Also, I'm interested in online gaming.

Given all of that, what's my best option?

It seems to be legit.

Thanks to an anonymous GameStop manager we now have an internal corporate memo detailing the Xbox 360 Pro's price drop to $299 for this Sunday. We're currently trying to get a better resolution scan, but the whole shebang is detailed in black and white on the page.

We now wait for Microsoft to acknowledge the price drop, which has gone from leaks to full blown flood of retail flyer confirmation.

Not to mention a confirmed 360 price drop in the upcoming months - 20 gig premium is going down to $299 -- gotta clear the shelves to make room for the 60gb pro systems ($349)

As far as sports games, both systems will have basically the same games, but in what I've read, the games typically get slightly better reviews on 360, or at worst the same review as PS3. The games just seem to run better on the 360 at this time.
A lot of games are made on the 360 then ported over... 360 is just easier to code for and was out first.. Kind of reversed for why games played better on the PS2 over the xbox..

The the original poster.. If you do not care about bluray and online is more important 360 will be the better choice...

As for games.. PS3 will always have a much smaller library this go around.. It is literally dwarfed by 360's quality games..

This..

They are suppose to have a new unit coming out also, that is more stable from what rumors I have been hearing..

The price drop is going to happen though.. 50dollars cheaper.. So there is your one year Live account..

I love my 360, but if I had to choose right now, I'd probably go with the PS3. Microsoft is standing behind the 360, but it's still a pain in the butt to send one in when it breaks.

I assume the PS3 will catch up eventually as far as games go. The Blu-ray player would probably sway me in favor of Sony.
I just did this 2 months ago, and it really easy to get mine sent out. its nowhere near a pain do get the coffin to you and for you to send it out. I was VERY VERY pleased with their customer service. It took me 10 days from the time i sent my Xbox out to get it back.

If your going to get one for gaming, 360 is by far the better system to get right now. Games look and run better on the 360. Xbox Live while it isnt free, is an awesome awesome service and is worth the 50 bucks a year.

My ps3 just collects dust right now while i wait for God of War 3. The only reason to get a ps3 over an xbox is if you really want a Blu Ray player.

I was never a fan of the X-Box controller, as I grew up with the original Playstation and I prefer that. The PS3 online play does suck in comparison to the XBox360, but there are hopes that it will improve with the launch of PS Home.

I own a 360 and I own a PS3. The PS3 is my blu-ray player, not my gaming console. It's a blu-ray player I can game on if I choose to.

The 360 is by far more problematic, I'm on my third one in 2 and 1/2 years. However, if you can live with the risk of possibly being w/o your console for about 10 days, it's not that big of a deal. As far as games go, not a chance I'd buy the PS3 for games.

360 has an insane library, and the far superior controller IMO. I mean, c'mon, you use a trigger to shoot alright, not a fucking R1 button, the trigger makes sense, not to mention the perfect placement of the left joystick. And 360 controllers feel like you're holding a controller, they actually weight something..thanks to the battery pack. PS3 controllers are about as heavy as original NES controllers and just a little more comfortable to the hands.

And XBox live is the answer if you plan to game online. Not to mention Gears of War 2 will be out in November!
