Chiefs snap counts vs. Cowboys
By Joel Thorman @JoelThorman on Sep 16 2013, 2:24p The Kansas City Chiefs 17-16 victory over the Dallas Cowboys produced several interesting snap count observations. Read on for a list of all the Chiefs snap counts from the Cowboys game. Jamaal Charles did not practice in full every day last week due to a quad injury and yet he still played all but one snap on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. "Tough kid, good player," Andy Reid said after the game. How will Jamaal's snaps affect him on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles? That's a topic we will need to examine this week. Branden Albert went down with a shoulder injury, a scary moment for Chiefs fans. But he is OK. Albert ended up missing just one drive -- four snaps -- before coming back in. Donald Stephenson relieved him. Travis Kelce played one special teams snap. Dontari Poe played every defensive snap. Yes, a man who is nearly 350 pounds played for 60 minutes. Awesome. Terez Paylor over at the KC Star has a number of good snap count observations as well. Read his piece here. Check out the full table below.

If you're going to use McCluster, move him around pre-snap. I'm not convinced anymore that's going to make a difference, but it's right now the only value he has potential to add. Right now, he's not valuable if not used in gimmickry.

So mccluster**** has 2 catches in 39 snaps and Hemmingway has 1 in 4.

1. Moar Hemmingway, Less McCluster. +1
2. Poe mancrush +1,000,000,000,000 Poe just played in his 18th game as a professional, and he is already one of the best nose tackles in the game. By season's end, I don't think there will be a question that he is the most dominant nose tackle in the NFL. I wouldn't take a single other one over him today. |

This is going to go on all season. McCluster's going to keep doing diddly and we're all going to wonder why Hemingway isn't playing more.

So I went back and watched the game as I had some suspicions of what happened but didn't want to comment on it before I had seen the broadcast as it's hard to tell exactly from seeing it at Arrowhead.
There was alot of talk about the Boys safeties playing up and the Cowboys defense really crowding the LOS. I didn't think it was the case watching it live, we had guys downfield alot and the Cowboys safeties were always deep, and as I rewatched it, I was right. Now thats not to say Smith would have or could have threatened them deep, but we absolutely have routes that are set up in that format, so either way, he's gonna have to pull the trigger. However, (and I know it's a sin to say this on here) the OL outside of Albert and Hudson (in pass pro, for the most part, I know he had 2 misses in the A gap, but I'm not sure that was Hudson or what) the OL wasn't good in pass protection. At all. I'm hoping it's just taking them time to learn, but we can't attempt to press it down field unless they give time. Lastly, for everyone who was saying Berry wasn't playing this, or that level, Sunday, the guy was the best player on the field. Took away Witten, was big in the run game, created turnovers (terrible call, btw) picked up a fumble and returned it. It was best safety in the game type stuff against a really really good offense. Very excited about it. And Kendrick Lewis is playing at a level I didn't think he could. He was fast to the ball, breaking on the ball, etc. |

Depends on your definition of downfield I guess.
We didn't send anyone on any 9 routes, but we had guys in intermediate routes consistently. Guess I should have worded that better. Jenkins pretty much only ran deep crosses from what I can remember. |

I'm wondering if it wasn't the plan because we didn't think we could block Dallas up front?
