Brady Quinn getting half the first team reps

I am surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but according to the radio on 610 this morning, (Bill Maas and Fescoe) Quinn has been getting about 50% of the first team reps in practice this week.

In the short term this is certainly a good thing because Quinn certainly can't be worse than what Cassel has been so far. But I wonder, what if he starts and does decent? Decent enough to warrant not drafting a first round QB next year. I really want the team to win but I want it to be like last week against the Saints every week where we win in spite of the QB, not because of him or with him really contributing. If Quinn does decent will that preclude them from going hard after a QB next season? (If they ever were going to at all).

Fescoe asks him how RAC feels about Cassel and so they talk about it. At around 15:10 when they talk about it Maas say, "They are keeping their options open...," then he goes on to elaborate around 15:45,

He takes a lot of snaps in practice now. It's not like he is just sitting there holding a clipboard giving the scout team look. He is getting about 50% of the reps, on the week in preparation. Maas.

Then they talk about it a little more around the 18:00 mark.

No but we don't have to. Where there's smoke there's fire. And no way would the Chiefs admit it anyway but there's no reason to believe it's not true.

There have been plenty quarterbacks that looked terrible with the team that drafted them and went on to success in another enviroment. Hopefully Quinn would be one of those.

I wish they'd play Quinn while the season is still salvageable, but there is risk there.

If Quinn came in and had league-average numbers and won 8 or 9 games, they'd go with him and we'd have no chance for a QB in the draft.

The first need was for Cassel to not be the starter. If this ever turns out to be true I am going to be happy about that, no matter what comes next. As a few have mentioned, Quinn sucking is not a bad thing. Quinn doing so so is the scary thought.
