Potatoes don't generally have many nutrients though, correct? I believe the skins do but I thought the innards were pretty empty. I do enjoy some good broccoli, green beans, etc. but a lot of these places put a lot of butter or other things on their vegetables to make them more "tasty".

I generally do try to order chicken or salmon. I can't have shrimp as I'm allergic to it. Salads with no dressing is very bleh to me (I'll generally get a vinaigrette). I'd imagine plain potatoes would also be somewhat of the same way. It's a very dry food that needs something to whet it up for mass consumption.

Potatoes are very high in nutrition and even contain complete protein. I'll have to look for it again but I read a study a while back where two people lived on nothing but potatoes for 6 months. They were perfectly healthy and stayed in nitrogen balance the whole time (which meant they were getting enough protein to not lose muscle).

I actually like plain potatoes with salt and vinegar on them. I'll also cut them into wedges, bake them until browned and eat them with a little low sugar ketchup. That wouldn't be possible in a restaurant, though.

Restaurant salads just don't really fill me up or satisfy me and there's generally not a whole lot of other healthy options. Anyone have any good ideas?
Just because you're choosing from a menu doesn't mean you can't have them alter something to make it a bit healthier. If you order a burger, try getting no cheese and not eating the bun. Healthy eating is becoming a "trend" and most restaurants are probably able to meet your needs. All you have to do is ask.

I suppose I need to learn more about healthy eating as well. Obviously I've seen low-carb, low-fat, etc. diets but I'm unsure what nutrients I might be missing with them and what I would need to eat to replace them.

I love food, and I love the different tastes you can achieve with different ingredients and spices. I don't want to be relegated to eating chicken breast, salmon, and salads just because I don't want to get fat.

If you keep the calories under control, you can eat nothing but Twinkies and lose weight. It's possible to eat whatever you want if you are good at portion control.

I have found that I am not good at it. I can maintain on a mixed diet but can't lose weight so have to resort to a little more extreme method to lose.

I gave the wrong idea about how I'm eating. I was just throwing stuff out for ideas in a restaurant, not how to eat all of the time. My food is very tasty. For example, one of my favorite current meals is to take rice, diced chicken breast, and peas and sprinkle with Golden Mountain sauce and a little fish sauce. It's quick and easy and tastes like something from a Thai restaurant. There are also a ton of things you can do with rice, potatoes, chicken/shrimp and curry powders. It's definitely not boring.

So I ballooned up to 196 (from 181 at my lowest). I think I was around 185 when I quit doing low carb, so I put on 11 lbs in a couple weeks.

Decided I felt like shit and looked like shit.

Back on Keto, back down to 188 and looking good.

Going to do Keto hardcore until I'm 175 then reevaluate.

Lately, whenever I have gone out to eat, I just make sure it's my only meal for that day. Nothing worse than ordering something bland and paying a good price for it.

So I was up to 196 last week, got down to 187.6 and then went on a 3 day vacation with no restrictions eating.

Came home last night and put down a burrito and 3 rolled tacos.

When I weighed myself this morning I was bracing for 190+ and I was at 184.6. Down 3 lbs on my vacation.

Pretty stoked on that.

I've lost 25 pounds and am now at what I consider to be my ideal body weight. I may wind up losing about five more, but that isn't my focus. Think I'm going back to the sprint8 workout to build muscle. I've been focusing on long distance running, and it really improved my cardio and burned a lot of calories. It gets really time-consuming, though.

The sprint8 sucks, but it only takes 20 minutes, and you see results in a week.

Okay, Sprint8=HIIT. I hate when companies do that, lol. Nice work on the weight loss!
