Wilkerson To Visit Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs apparently have some interest in free agent DT Muhammad Wilkerson. According to Calvin Watkins of Newsday, the Chiefs are on Wilkerson’s free agent visit.

Wilkerson, one of the top defensive linemen available, visited the Packers this week then it’s the Saints and then the Chiefs ... if he makes it to Kansas City and another team doesn’t sign him first.

The Jets cut him last week two years into a five-year, $86 million contract so something was going on there. Wilkerson was reported to have shown up late to meetings with the Jets so he’ll have to show free agent teams how dedicated he is. Or he’ll just have to be so good teams put up with showing up late.

The connection to the Chiefs is Bob Sutton, who was in New York for a couple years with Wilkerson.

He will end up in Green Bay unless someone grossly overpays for him. He played two seasons with Pettine and played well. Plus, a chance to play with Rodgers.

I don't think he would be happy going through the growing pains of playing with rookie QB.

As a coach, I don't think I'd want my rookies showing up early and spending idle time with Von Miller and Aqib Talib. Those guys know how to escape the police, but rookies won't.

Roundup: Muhammad Wilkerson to meet with Saints

Free agency kicks off next week, but for Muhammad Wilkerson, the search for a new team has already begun.

Released last month by the Jets, Wilkerson visited the Packers on Thursday and left without a deal, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Next up? Wilkerson is headed south to meet with the Saints, Rapoport was told.

Both teams would loom as intriguing landing spots for the 28-year-old defensive lineman. Wilkerson is a known quantity to Mike Pettine, the new Packers defensive coordinator who coached the former Pro Bowler in New York.

In New Orleans, Wilkerson would join a rugged defensive line led by Sheldon Rankins and holy terror Cameron Jordan.

The Packers let Wilkerson bolt without a contract, but not to worry Green Bay faithful: Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported the visit "went very well," noting the team is "still in contention" for the defensive behemoth's services.

Wilkerson fell out of favor with the Jets, but the physically freaky lineman still has plenty of gas left in the tank. He currently ranks at No. 18 on the Top 101 Free Agents list shepherded with care by Chris Wesseling and Gregg Rosenthal.
