Hunt and Dorsey

Everyone wants to make this about Andy Reid. Maybe this had nothing to do with Reid. Maybe this was 100% between Hunt and Dorsey (for whatever reason).

I remember the awkward moment they had on draft day when Mahomes was drafted. Watch the last 10 seconds or so of this video. Maybe it's nothing, but it sure looked awkward. The fumbled hand shake degenerating to a hand/fist bump; then Dorsey puts both hands behind his back and Clark gives Dorsey his back as he walks off with no further interaction. I'm no psychologist, but that looks like some awkward body language to me, especially between an owner and GM that just made a bold move to get a franchise qb.

I'd love to hear the real story... Dorsey seemed all-in and I liked him... especially after the Pioli trainwreck.

We will likely never know the full true story. None of our business, actually.

That is an awkward interaction. Almost like neither really wanted to interact, but awkwardly found themselves in too close proximity to each other and quickly gave a half ass form of acknowledgment due to the setting.

Clark IS awkward AF, he's got a ****ing hair helmet and his name is Clark. I feel awkward just listening to him give an interview from another state away. I can't imagine being a former linebacker trying to interact with him in a very intense, very football moment. Clark's looking to give scarf wearing soccer dap and Dorsey's probably looking to Ric Flair whoop while kissing his bicep and they crossed paths is all.

This is a good observation. I remember people talking about it on draft night now that it's mentioned.

Still? Wrong narrative. Nobody disagrees that Clark can do what he wants with his team.

This is an entertainment business and the NFL desperately wants the fans to be involved with the teams. Marketing. Fan engagement brings in the $$. That is why the NFL draft is heavily promoted and gets ridiculous ratings. (Teams don't have draft parties for fans because they have nothing better to do.) Fan engagement is why every NFL team participates in social media, gets involved in community affairs, and spends millions on stadium improvements.

So while nobody is trying to run the Chiefs....it IS our business to discuss and pick apart anything the owner, GM, coach (es), players do regarding the team. That, in good measure, is why there are places like CP on the interwebs. If that bothers you, why are you here?

Some interesting talk on Reddit

(Owners name) told us today that he's heard that the Dorsey/Hunt relationship has really sizzled. First off, anyone like Kietzman saying anything about Mahomes is a lie. Everybody loved him and Andy knew full well that he had work to do with him, so don't believe anything about Mahomes being a factor in this decision.

The GB issue was part of this factor. Clark knows that Dorsey has friends in GB and still talks to them all the time. When this rumor came out, Clark confronted Dorsey about this in his weekly meeting with him. Dorsey reiterated that this was his dream job, but that that was something he used to want when he was in GB. Clark wasn't too happy about that but was okay with offering a deal that would show loyalty here.

Contracts were a big problem in Clark's mind, and he didn't like how we kept having these bad deals with bad cap moves. Clark was not happy at all about how the Eric Berry situation unfolded. That situation got so bad last year that Eric Berry would not speak to Dorsey. He avoided him throughout the season and didn't want to have anything to do with him for a long time. This was due to the insurance fiasco.

If it wasn't for Clark, Berry wouldn't have signed. Andy and Clark had to step in and help get that signing done bc of the animosity from Berry, his family and agent to Dorsey.

This led Clark to do a complete root cause analysis of the entire management in personnel. Normally this wouldn't happen because of the great success we've had.

It was no secret that Clark didn't like some of the contracts that were given out and the way they were formulated. Dorsey acknowledged this and fired Trip McCracken while hiring his new guy.

In regards to your question about Andy being on edge-

This was because of players missing OTA's. It's usually normal, but Eric Berry apparently told Andy he needed more time away because he was still upset about the contract drama. This led to Andy snapping at the media.

Andy and Clark were furious at Dorsey for how he handled Maclin's release. Maclin was enraged about what happened. Andy initially wanted to have a man-to-man talk about this. What happened happened and Andy called Maclin right after to talk to him.

Mark Donovan was pissed off about the bad publicity that came from Maclin's release.

Finally, Clark was okay with giving Dorsey another chance with a new cap strategist, but Dorsey wasn't pleased with the dollars he was getting. Clark was not happy about this because he had just stepped in to do Dorsey's job and sign Berry.

Adding in the contract missteps and GB drama to this situation made this easy for Clark.

Brett Veach is the obvious favorite for GM. We'll have some external candidates come in but it would have to be a slam dunk candidate to make them pass on Veach.
