Jeremy Maclin

Maclin becomes a free agent after this season, and of course you have the Andy Reid connection and the Missouri connection (He's originally from St. Louis).

Things might have aligned for him to be a bargain, he suffered the knee injury this year in training camp and is on IR.

Maclin would give us a lot of utility in the downfield passing game and he would be able to help as a kick returner. His base salary this season is just under $3 million. He's appeared in 59 games at the NFL level and has 26 touchdowns. Certainly he'll get a raise since he'll only be 26 and has produced well at the NFL level, but he should be affordable in terms of his production.

I don't think you need to be a Mizzou homer to feel like Maclin would be a good signing and a great fit for us.

Personally, with what we'd end up paying him, I'd like to see us invest in multiple WRs through the draft. It'd just be easier than dealing with whatever unreasonable contract demands he might have considering only being a year removed from an ACL tear.

Justin Houston and Eric Berry need to be Chiefs beyond their rookie contracts. That has to be on the mind of Dorsey 100% this offseason, and if he can't get extensions done now, I think there's a very good chance we'll lose one of them.
He only averages 65 catches, 863 yards, and 6.5 TDs per season in his career.

If his career ended today, he would have enough yardage to be top ten in Chiefs history...350 more career receiving yards than Fred Arbanas.

He would be #8 in touchdown receptions (#7 for WRs).

He would be #11 in catches (#10 for WRs).

We don't need a guy like that...especially one who is only 25 years old.

2010 964 yds 10 TD with his relationship with Andy Maclin might not be so expensive.

Cool story. Is he going to do that after an ACL tear? Yes, he could. AP did. Charles did. Is Maclin AP or Charles?

The injury is a huge headache in this situation. Remember Steve Breaston? No, he didn't break the bank, but he's still something standing in the way of other more critical priorities in improving this team.

What I'm fighting against is the idea that Maclin is the solution to our problems at WR. I'm also fighting that this is a bygone conclusion. How do you know he wants to return "home"? Maybe he ****ing hates it in KC. Maybe Andy Reid doesn't want him. Maybe the Eagles are going to bring him back. How much does he want? Does Dorsey have other plans? What if we're going after somebody better?

There are any number of moves that "make sense" to fans that make no ****ing sense at all to NFL GMs. For all we know, this is one of those.

Injury history and there are other glaring problems on the roster.. Namely salary to keep critical players on the roster and the fact KC will probably have to bring in two new starting offensive linemen next season.

Pass.

It could be a terrible "behind the scenes" fit. So could any move, though.

He would be a huge upgrade...huge. Knee injuries in football are getting to be like Tommy John surgery in baseball. It happens, and you recover.

Maclin is a guy who can provide both a deep threat and still catch a ball over the middle and get YAC. He isn't a big, lumbering, alley-oop type receiver. He creates separation and makes plays. We need a WR like that. We need two, actually.

More linemen to block for nobody! We've only spent our franchise tag and number one overall pick in the draft on our tackles...let's really make an effort this time.

With what the FO has invested in Alex and the fact a UDFA is the only "developmental" QB on the roster, it seems to me that Dorsey/Reid have pushed their chips all-in on this season and in 2014.

All in in 2014 means offensive line help, a speed RB to spell/replace Jamaal and a defensive back will be the top concerns in the draft.

The Chiefs have historically had a ton of broke dick WRs is what that tells me.

Maclin is far from a brokedick and the injury concerns are way overblown.

5 seasons in the NFL and he's only 25 years old.
