Adrian Peterson Indicted

Reckless/negligent injury to a child. Indicted.

This league may not be able to sustain too many more of these black eyes. It's a mess.

CBS 11 Houston reports Adrian Peterson is being investigated for another child abuse accusation involving one of his other sons.
According to the news station, one of Peterson's four-year-old son's was disciplined by Peterson for cursing at one of his siblings. The boy sustained a scar over his right eye. Peterson has at least five children with multiple different women, and is believed to have as many as seven kids out of wedlock. If more information comes to light, the Vikings could discipline Peterson yet again.
He better be put behind bars and served restraining orders because one of these days he's going to "love" one of his kids to death.

I'll catch heat for this but #2 was much worse for me. Rice's wife was crazy in that tape and came right at him screaming and flailing. I've had chicks do that to me in the past and it's beyond annoying. While I never hit one, I can absolutely see how someone could snap.

#2 involved a defenseless child. Who doesn't even know what he's doing. Who poses no threat to the parent. AP is a sick bitch.

Whoa, tried to look at Vikings message board to see what their fans had to say, this is what popped up:

Quote:
Shut down

Vikings Message Board has been shut down permanently. It will not return. There are two primary reasons.

1. The Vikings cowardly decision to reinstate a child abuser and think that an apology will make this blow over. We will not stand for this arrogance and we will no longer be the home of any support of the Vikings. We stand for those who cannot defend themselves.

2. We will not give a voice to thugs who think child abuse is "cultural" or worse, openly advocate child abuse as a reasonable method of punishment. This ends here. Yes, a few board members have ruined it for everyone. Congratulations, assholes.

The reason why the "everything is a big deal to a three year old" post is a strawman is because it's equating the frustration of "No, you may not have a cookie" with the emotional pain of having an individual 5 times his or her size use an implement on them.

It's clear you don't buy my "ritualizing" argument for the implement discipline, so I'll focus on this instead: when used responsibly, without any trace of anger, and with force that I would say needs to be under the category of "firm" (these are children 4 years and younger we're talking about here), then it's no different than an open hand on the bottom. Sure. But that's the danger parents encounter every time. If they use it responsibly, it should be last resort, yes? So we take the example of a child in his terrible twos... getting into trouble is an every day thing, and at its worst it's an every minute thing. It's trying on a parent's patience. Perhaps they've told the child already multiple times. Reasoning isn't working. The child is screaming, continuing to push the issue. In that state, the parent might have the patience to do this discipline action the right way. Might. But among the 1 in 4 parents who use objects as corporal punishment, in those last resort stages when they deem this to be necessary, it's not always the case among some of them.

And that's my final point against using objects-- because it's risky. Again, we can't get in the minds of our children. We don't always know when that will become effective. It raises the risk that even though the parent is likely fully cognizant of not wanting to harm the child (a completely different situation from AP), when you're using objects, the RISK goes up by a significant amount.
It's not black and white - there's a sliding scale to the situation.

Beating a two year old makes no sense because they're not old enough to process the right and wrong of it. Not only that but odds are they don't remember it anyway.

When a child is older (I want to say 10-11 years old for me) I'd prefer a spanking over facing in a corner completely bored for a half hour. Spanking is easy at that age - happens, it's over, and you go on with your day. They figured this out pretty quick and that was the last time they ever bothered with any physical punishment.

So there was a time I was too young for it to work, a time it was the only thing that worked, and once again a time it didn't work at all.

I lurked another Vikings forum earlier, and my respect for the fans plummeted.

They were rationalizing this. It was unbelievable.

Wow.

A) I can't believe anyone would think this specific instance was OK. He absolutely beat the **** out of that kid.

B) Applause. It might be kind of a knee jerk thing but good for them for taking a stand and making a point...

Sounds like the child was getting spanked, tried to get away, and caught the plastic side of a car seat.
