Romeo sent a shot across the bow of Pioli

After hearing all the talk today on radio, etc., as much as a lot of us would have liked to have seen Romeo go for the win in regulation he probably did the best thing for this team and sent a very clear and unmistakable message to Pioli that he will not put a game in Cassel's hands unless he has too.

There are some drawbacks as that same message gets sent to the team as well.

From former players to talking heads they have all basically said that there is no disguising this message. Romeo may have done us a favor and took us a huge step towards getting rid of Cassel.

Couple this with hearing last week from Maas that Romeo says he does not believe in Cassel. This is good news.

PFF has just unveiled a new and helpful stat: average depth of target. Among quarterbacks with at least 300 attempts last season, Moore led the entire NFL. You read that right: The QB who’s lost his job to Jimmy Clausen and Ryan Tannehill was the most aggressive passer in the NFL. (Moore was also successful on deep throws. Ranking 9th in deep accuracy, he finished ahead of players like Philip Rivers, Tom Brady, and Ben Roethlisberger.)

This team would be fun to watch with him as the qb.
I'd be ok with this if we got rid of Ca$$hole and drafted a 1st round QB...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

The problem is that if the Chiefs traded for Matt Moore and he played "okay", the Chiefs would be justified in passing on yet another chance at a Franchise QB.

It's not happening anyway because Miami doesn't have an experienced backup. Why trade Moore for a pittance? If Tannehill goes down, they're stuck with undrafted free agent Pat Devlin.

Jeff Ireland sucks but he's not that dumb. He's not going to trade away his chance at coming back in 2013.

Coaches with no faith in their quarterbacks don't go for it on 4th and 5 in a situation where they easily could have punted. Which is exactly what Romeo did a mere 60 seconds before his testes retracted up into his body and he played for a FG.

The end of regulation was a cluster**** of mismanagement, ignored only because the Saints were handling things even worse. And now people are trying to spin this narrative of "no faith in Cassel" out of it, even though Romeo clearly made the decision to put the game in Cassel's hands.

The idea would be to hedge our bets.

You don't make one move and hope it works you ****ing flood the position (like we did this year at TE or HB for example.)

Trade for Moore, draft a QB, and then have a legit camp battle. Carry 4 in (not unusual) to camp and by game 4 of the preseason figure out your 3...

Why would Miami trade Moore with no one behind him?

Plus, let's say you give up a three (ludicrous, but I'll play). That three could be used in a package to grab a REAL Franchise QB.

Not even then. DEFINITELY not then.

Shame on you.

For example, I now like what Shanny did with the skins. At the time it seemed stupid but he took two QB's with huge upside.

RGIII has the brains and talent to be a HOF QB. That said he's got some injury concerns. He's a scrambler. He exposes himself to risk.

So Shanny drafts that passer who could be a legit long term b/u (probably better) to hedge his bets and if III stays healthy he might be able to trade that b/u (see Eagles/Packers) for more than what he drafted them for.

The current NFL has gotten away from this but for years teams would have that one b/u that you knew could step in and play decent. Not for a season but for a 3-4 game stretch.

Charlie Batch, Chandler, DeBerg, Mitchell, Reich, etc.

Me, too! A bit of a gamble but with well worth it.
