BAM. Although I wouldn't just name Roaf & Shields, that o line may have been the best in history and made Holmes & Green as good as they were. But I think Green was a more accurate passer than Cassel too.

Ok, this is just dumb. The great offensive line, running game, Dante Hall, AND Green were the reason.

Yeah, well I'm tired of people acting like Trent not being able to get wins was somehow his fault. The guy led a top 5 offense for 4 years while here. It was coach Vermeil's and management's fault for not getting him any kind of help on defense.

Hell, the game in the playoffs against the Colts was a great game for Trent. Was it his fault the defense could not force the Colts to punt? Was it his fault that Priest Holmes fumbled on the first drive of the 2nd half? No. So shut up with that nonsense!

Bullshit. Pure ****ing bullshit.

If the 2002-2005 Chiefs had even a top 15 defense, they would have at least a playoff win.

Trent was NOT the problem. Not "awesome".

Wasn't the solution either. Cassel was a better clutch QB, and Green was poor in the RZ.

Come on. The Chiefs were on the Top Five offensively from 2002-2005. The offense and Trent Green were hardly the problem.

If you'd like to place blame, place it on the fact the Carl Peterson failed to provide Green and the Chiefs with young perimeter weapons.

Morton and Kennison were hardly elite. It's not like he had Roddy White and Julio Jones.

I'm not yelling at you Lzen......

But Alex Smith is not Trent Green. Even if Alex Smith's last two years weren't a fluke....they were AVERAGE at best. Matt Cassel had a better season in 2010 than Alex Smith HAS EVER HAD.

And that's a fair argument. Like I said, I wasn't exactly excited about this trade. I have always thought that Smith was not that good. And I really don't follow the 49ers so I haven't really kept up on him the last couple of years. All I know is what I've read/heard lately. Perhaps the Chiefs will still draft a QB and groom him for a year or two while Smith starts. That wouldn't be so bad.

Nothing says clutch like going 1-14 on 3rd down in the biggest game of your life.

A few things to consider, some good some bad -

We will need a more than adequate backup. Smith has only played 16 games twice, sometimes because of injury, sometimes because of suckage.

62 TDs vs. 32 Ints since 2009, completing over 60 percent of his passes since 2009. It's obvious the guy is coming into his own.

He was super clutch in the playoffs last year. A lot of people forget that.

He's mobile and smart, which I don't think Cassel was at all. He ran a 4.7 40 and got a 40 out of 50 on the Wonderlic.

I'm very much in the hurry up and wait category. He's not the last QB we will acquire this offseason, so let's see who else we get and flame away then. Personally, I would LOVE to see us sign Bowe and Albert, trade back in the first, grab Millner or Austin, and use our extra pick on a QB. (Manuel, Bray, or Barkley would be fine with me)

This is how I might feel, If I didn't live near SF, wasn't married to a 49ers fan, and hadnt watched Alex Smith fairly closely for years....

I am usually fairly reluctant to say things one way or another about players......unless I am fairly sure. I don't know anything about Geno, or any of the other players coming out except maybe Barkley....so I'm not commenting on them much.

I even held off saying bad shit (as all of you know) about Cassel for like 3 years because I wanted to give him a shot.

In this case, I'm pretty sure Smith isn't THAT much of an improvement. I feel confident in saying he isn't going to lead us to a ring in his 4-5 year window. I've watched his games, watched him.

There is a reason the 49ers benched him to start a guy who had played one NFL game, in the middle of a playoff run season.
