It's hard to know how bad our defense is. Statistically, only 3 teams gave up more yards per play -- that is horrifying, but how much of that was Crennel's schemes, and more importantly, his over the top lax, no accountability "coaching"?

I think our system had as much to do with the fault in pass rush than anything. Sure it could be upgraded at certain positions (namely DE).

i distinctly remember a game this season where Tyson Jackson got TWO COVERAGE sacks by pure lack and this place just laughing at him, not be cause he generated a pass rush to save his life, because our secondary and LBers had to go above and beyond a typical coverage to have a QB walk into a guy that can't generate any push whats so ever for like 8 seconds

that's not the scheme. that's just bad pass rush.

Good point.

Long words but you've just simply implied that TJack has no pass rush ability.
The same is true for the rest of the DE's (Dorsey, Pitotua and Bailey).

Scheme or no scheme. This team needs DE's that are at least capable of getting to the QB. It's sad to see how that is non-existent from our DE's.
They all suck and need to be replaced.

I don't think anyone can deny we need major upgrade at the DE spots.

and a couple LBers

we not only need a starting ILBer but we need rotational pass rushers, whether they are OLBers or DEs.

REAL ONES. Not ****ing Andy Studebaker or Allen Bailey or Jerrell Powe or whatever turd gets a free pass around here.

So milkman's point was right. QB + pass rushers. Whether its a DE, LBer, NT, whatever. A player that generates a push is fine.

Powe could be a solid NT.

I fully expect a lot of turnover on this roster. It'll be interesting to see if Dorsey dips into the FA market when that hasn't been a staple of GB at all.

I don't think Green Bay's roster has needed any major overhauls since the early days of Ron Wolfe.

No, but there isn't any reason we cant use it to fill a hole or two.

Responding to Bad Guy's post regarding the use of free agency by the Pack since Dorsey has been on staff.

The Packers haven't dipped into free agency heavily since Ron Wolfe took over.

They have, however added pieces here and there, most notably Charles Woodson.

Yep.

I would like to see us target the secondary this year in free agency, maybe not a top notch guy, but either a FS or CB.

People are clamoring for Jarius Byrd, but I'll take William Moore for less money.

It's crucial that we get more pass rush from the DL. Hali and Houston are fine, great pass rushers.

Developing Poe is huge and scheme should help some with others, but we need more athleticism up front. The 2 gap big strong guys are useless.

I'd love to see us sign Ed Reed he brings leadership the defense is missing but it doesn't make sense for him to sign here at this point in his career.
