As for their ZR, I don't recall seeing too much of it (albeit I was watching the Detroit/Colts game at the same time). I think the problem w/ Carolina's rushing attack largely stem from
A) Cam's inability to make correct reads the majority of the time (i.e. the game is too fast for him currently. He can probably get better at this, for Panthers fans sake).
B) The Panthers RBs are indecisive when running off the read option. IMO, if you're running the ZR in the NFL, your backs need to hit the hole as quickly as possible as the PA/ZR allows time for defenses to react and safeties to move back into the box. For example, it may start with a 7-man front, but once the qb sticks the ball out in front, you're going to typically be facing a near immediate 8 or even a 9 man front, depending on the coaching style.

This requires the RB to hit the hole as quickly as possible as to try and beat the safeties/defense from getting to the hole.

JMO, and I'm a few beers in. Feel free to tear this apart, meus amigos.
Good points...Read option is a drive killer.

Cam reminds me of Donovan McNabb. They is so much that I don't like about him, though. I am glad he is in the NFC.

Thanks!

I think you might be able to run a primarily ZR offense if you had a competent QB that could make the read quickly (ala RG3) and a decisive, large and quick RB ( AP, Foster, etc.) I doubt it has longevity in this league though.

Agreed. Although, Cam will NEVER be in the same conversation vs. RG3 - Ever.
