There are a lot of ways I am ok with letting Albert walk.. BUT you don't let an above average (barely) LT walk unless his back is going to be a concern or he is demanding top 5 money.

Sparano did draft Jake Long... and Long has struggled in Miami's new scheme.. and he is due a crap load of money making Martin a MUCH cheaper option for them. I wonder if we could get him for something as low as a 3rd rounder.

I may be wrong here, but isn't Long a free agent this year?

One thing I am sure of, though, Long is as overrated at LT as any in the last 20 years.

Yes he will be a free agent but I can see Miami tagging him. I'd love to get him without giving up anything but I doubt the rest of the league is as pigheadedly moronic about judging Long as you are.

Long would be a MASSIVE upgrade over Albert even in a ZBS which doesn't play to his strengths in the least.

Of course he has been battling injuries all year so (just like Albert) I'd want to be certain that isn't going to be an ongoing concern.

Sorry Austin, I am not pigheadedly moronic about Long.

He is a good, but not great, LT that is at best, a marginal upgrade to Albert, and I think Albert is still growing, while Long is pretty much at his ceiling.

He is great but I do agree that the upgrade isn't worth the money if we use a zone blocking scheme.

^ This. There are two positions that NEVER hit the open market unless there are issues with them. Franchise QBs and Franchise LTs. If Long is elite then he is a franchise LT and if the Dolphins are willing to let him walk then that says a ton about him.

Actually if they let him walk it's because they have a RT who filled in at LT and did a fantastic job (Martin) and Long is due big money. A team with as many holes as The Dolphins have can't afford to carry two quality LTs. Period.

And Hali has owned Ryan Clady.

Sometimes it just about how individuals match up with each other.

Hali has a nice initial burst, but he's more about power than speed, so he owns Clady, while Long is more physical, so he struggles against him.

There are, and have been, very few players that match up with both speed and power on either side.

Albert is still a work in progress, but has the physical attributes to eventually be that type of player.

Long doesn't.
