Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

I wasn't aware that Jim McMahon, Joe Theismann, Phil Simms, Mark Rypien, Doug Williams, Jeff Hostettler, Brad Johnson, and Trent Dilfer were all going to the Hall of Fame someday. Congratulations to each and every one of them. They deserve it.

ughh, not really, all the qb's have put up insane ****ing numbers.

look at the damned qb's on that list, they have all had their teams playing for the post teams almost every year. When the season starts, everyone knows thats the teams to watch. Why? because of their quarterbacks!

every year, we expect, teams like the Steelers, Patriots, Packers, Giants, Colts, 90's Niners and 90's Cowboys to go compete. there is a reason for that, their qb's!!!

Who expects Alex Smith to have his team in the play offs year in and year out because of his amazing play? ughh. yeah.

i still dont see how fans dont get this in their heads.
Chiefs arent going to have the 2000 or 2003 Ravens and Buc's defenses.

10-6 is the new 13-3 for us. We need to go 11-5 or 12-4.

Why didn't we? Did it have anything to do with how we picked up Green or his draft status? Same goes for Gannon, who got them there, but suddenly his draft status stopped them from winning?

There are good quarterbacks, and I don't give a shit how we get one, we just need to get one.
Yes, KC could have, with a better defense. Unlikely, but possible. Their approach to doing so was to build one of the best offensive lines in league history, and also to have the best tight end in the history of the league. Oh, and also to have the best one or two running backs in the league at the time.

Meanwhile, look at the supporting casts for most of the recent Super Bowl winners, the ones lead by true franchise QBs. They usually lack top 5 players in their respective offensive positions. These organizations didn't need to spend the money or resources, or have the sheer luck, to have the best of the best at WR or OL or RB or TE. Because their quarterbacks make everybody better.

Its easier, which is to say more statistically likely, to build a championship roster with the Franchise Quarterback approach than it is the Vermeil "elite shell" approach.

I use 10-6 as an example because many recent Super Bowl teams have had a 10-6 record entering the playoffs.

The bottom line, IMO, is that the Chiefs need to insure that the 2013 team, outside of catastrophic injury, is playing for a playoff spot, if not playing to win a playoff game.

Ingle Martin
Matt Flynn
Brian Brohm
BJ Coleman

HE TRADED 2 second rounders for Alex Smith, Dane.

Or are you gonna put your head in the sand and act like what's being widely reported is nothing but unsubstantiated rumor?

I'm saying that this team would have a lot more genuine hope if they would have signed a guy like Matt Moore and drafted a quarterback with the top pick.

Tell me all the great stories of the teams that passed on QBs with th first overall pick because it seems we are gonna try to legitimize this franchise by acting like the 2008 Dolphins.

Absolutely. It's all about the quarterbacks, year in year out. That's why Dan Marino is polishing all them rings.

I have no ill will towards the guy but he's the biggest ****ing phony on this site (a title he's undoubtedly had for years, despite the fact that the n00bs are all unaware).

If Alex Smith lights it up for the Chiefs, this guy will likely snap his neck doing a 180. If Smith is below average to average, all he'll say until the start of the 2014 season is "I told you so".

Absolutely.

I don't want to hear the excuses and if Andy Reid is right... I will be just fine admitting I was wrong...I just think we are about to be the 2008 dolphins and some team is about to be 2008 Atlanta.

That's your opinion and one that the Chiefs front office does not share. Matt Moore isn't a free agent and there are no indications that Miami wants to release him.

If we want to win now we should trade our first and second rounds picks every draft for veterans who are ready to come in and contribute.

BALLA ASS GM.

That said, if Andy Reid makes this work by giving Alex Smith 616 attempts (the total of Vick+Foles) and maintains his 8ypa, we have a 5000 yard passer and the del was a complete steal.

I'll have no problem admitting being wrong by calling the Chiefs and ordering season tickets.

I honestly can't think of many instances where a team overdrafted a QB at #1 overall outside of Cam Newton.

There have been numerous QB busts at #1 overall, but those don't count. They have to be overdrafted guys that people said weren't worth that high of a draft pick.

The last guy before that was... Tim Couch? David Carr? I can't remember back that far what people were saying about those two.
