Greg Rob!nson bringing a more physical approach defense against the Hogs?

per ESPN
No. 8 Texas vs. Arkansas (8:45, ESPN)
We all remember what happened last year when Arkansas went to Austin and embarrassed the Horns on their home field. The Razorbacks ran the ball 60 times for 265 yards and wore down Texas on the way to a 38-28 victory, and you have to believe a year to think about the postgame celebration by the Hogs will have the Longhorns coming to Fayetteville in an angry mood.
These teams do not like each other and this game has the potential to be the nastiest of the weekend.
Texas has talked all offseason about new defensive coordinator Greg Rob!nson grob bringing a more physical approach to the defense, and after what happened last year we're going find out whether the Horns have improved in that area. Keep and eye on middle linebacker Aaron Harris MLB and safeties Phillip Geigar and Michael Huff to see if they are ready to come up and take on the Arkansas running backs.
Texas will also have to contain Arkansas quarterback Matt Jones, who got in the open and had a couple of long scrambles on his way to 100 yards rushing in last year's win in Austin. If the Longhorns can keep him in the pocket and dictate the tempo they will be in good shape.
Texas quarterback Vince Young will be an equalizer with his scrambling ability and improved passing. Look for him break some big scrambles on the outside because of the amount of man-to-man coverage Arkansas plays.
But I like Horns tailback Cedric Benson to be the star of the game with well over 100 rushing yards. His contributions and a physical defense leads to a 27-17 payback win for Texas in Fayetteville.

I wonder if Arkansas coach Nutt has being using the Colts vs Chiefs film to prepare his team for that physicalTexas D.

More of that "tough" defense...and that TD was into double coverage, too. Way to go, Greg Robinson!

65 yards allowed in 5 plays, now that brings back some memories!

It's a simplistic scheme that gets torched on the NFL level because QB's in the NFL, if given time, wil pick you apart all day long. Your not going up against some 19 year old Sophmore, your going up against 10 year Vets that can read D's in their sleep.

GR should be successfull at the College level.
I'm not seeing it. Iowa plays some zone blitz with the ends because Iowa's ends are smaller anyway. You never see the DT going downfield and they usually will rush 4 and use their safeties like a nickle. Additionally, Iowa CBs are expected to play in the box on run plays and make some big hits. They hardly ever change their look and go in the same formation for just about every down. Iowa LBs do not read and react. On run plays the LBs are just a couple yards off the los and its actually more like the old 46 Buddy Ryan defense without the constant blitzing.

17-16 Arkansas leads at halftime. Arkansas has something around 275 total yards at halftime, and that includes the -17 yard run by the punter on the safety. Most of the yards are through the air, the Hogs are 8-15 passing for 194 yards and a TD... that's almost 25 yards a completion.

I wish I had a subscription to rivals.com so I could read what's inside some of the topics on the Longhorn board. It lets you read the front page and the titles on it but to actually read the threads or post you have to have a subscription....

In Ugly Duck fashion here are some of the Texas BBS thread topics at halftime.

----------
Why Not Have the DE's just stand their Ground?

No discipline

Same Old Texas Sh*t

Our Pass Defense

Can we win this game with ZERO pass rush?

Can anyone tell what the F we are doing with our DE's?

Mack = Dean Smith

Attn: DEs needed

OU will destroy us

Pass Rush? Passing game?

When will we ever put it all together?

What is wrong with this team?

I think Robinson's scheme will only work in college. Because the players and coaches aren't as smart or get the players prepared as well as the pros do.

They got lucky. Bad decision to pass on third down by Arkansas. Just run the mofo and kick the field goal. A lot of these college teams try to get cute.

Knobinson's efense dodged a bullet. Between Nutt's Marty imitation at the end on the first half and Matt Jones' ill-timed fumble near the end, Arkansas gave the game away.

Greg Robinson's D is NOTHING like Norm Parker's at Iowa.

Iowa uses virtually no blitzing and utilizes just the down 4 to get pressure.

Robinson uses the zone blitz, drops defensive ends back into coverage, and could care less if there's any pressure.

We'll see how Robinson's D looks against OU.

FWIW, I never say any of the Longhorn D Linemen dropping into coverage. Maybe he's finally learning from his mistakes? But then again, it's usually the second half of the season when his Ds start looking extremely awful.

My sentiments exactly. I'll bet OU hangs 50 on 'em.

What a heartbreaker for my Hawgs. I can't believe that Jones fumbled the ball, though I shouldn't be surprised. Jones has some serious athletic ability, but the way he dangles that ball out there when he's running; it's like he's begging to have it stripped. I don't know why no one has ever taught him to protect the ball better. It's so obvious that the way he carries it is dangerous.

As for Knobinson...I was having deja vu of last season. My and my father in law were watching and laughing. Everytime Jones would scramble around and stick 9 or 10 yards on what should have been a busted play, we'd say, "Boy, that looks familiar." Mobile QBs kill Robinson.
