Urban recruit?

He is just voicing the opinion of a fair amount of college football players. We would all like to think,"Hey, he has the opportunity to get a great education for free!", but the truth is that they are too stupid to earn a degree or do not have the foresight.

Overall, that simply isn't true. Most student athletes are actually quite bright and do well in their classes. I imagine the larger power schools have a little more trouble with this phenomenon, but those students likely still represent less that 10% of a team.

I said football players, and I said a fair amount. Oh well, it doesn't matter. One dumbass is one dumbass, but what scares me is that he is a QB.

How can you prove that "most student athletes are quite bright"? Do you have a source, or are you just speaking based on anecdotal evidence? Also, it depends on your definition of "well". My experience with athletes in classes is a few of them are dedicated students (I even have a few in my MD class), but a lot of them are not "bright" by college standards, as you put it.

That said, most student athletes do benefit from having structure (respective sport and school) in their lives, along with the degree. Whether they are actively engaged or not, they still have an opportunity to get an education and are learning more than they would if they didn't have the opportunity.

I'm certainly not going to prove anything and the only evidence that I have would be fifteen years of gradebooks to go along with APR and GPA reports. Even then, my evidence spans sports, with most of the students clearly understanding that they will not become professional athletes. However, that describes most of the student athletes in the US.

A couple of semesters ago, I had a couple of volleyball players in class. Out of 57 students, one of the girls was by far the top student in the class. The other girl was top five. Regarding football players, of the two that I've had most recently, one is currently in the NFL (with a degree in mathematics) and the other is in medical school.

I realize that there are student athletes that don't take college seriously. However, I would argue that they represent a distinct minority of student athletes.

They do well in the cupcake classes that are selected for athletes. This doesn't make them good student athletes. Ohio State is a notoriously dirty program and that's why they are constantly under investigation.

Every program is dirty. Lots of dumb athletes are playing competitive sports for good academic institutions. Let's not make the ridiculous accusation that this is only happening at Ohio State.

They are. It's hilarious when another school gets busted and fans of other big time schools toss those stones like thier program is the one true Saint out there.

No, he actually is considered a grey shirt, he had to go to prep school because his grades were so low. He will likely never see action at Ohio State, Miller has a couple years left, and we have the top QB in Texas TJ Barrett coming in next year. Cardale is a very gifted athlete, but he is very dumb. Also he was redshirted this season, he doesn't have a chance at getting in.
