Thoughts on a weekend in Indy

I'm sure this will be a rambling, incoherent mess - my head is still swimming - so I apologize. I'm sure you guys have discussed this every way possible, but wondering if typing out my thoughts will help begin the process of putting this nightmare behind me.

Anywho...

I want to start with Alex Smith.

He proved me wrong yesterday. That was the game I didn't think he was capable of - putting a team on his back. Not sure why we had to wait until Week 18 of the season to see it, but it was nice to see. He played flawlessly save two mistakes - ball security on the fumble that started the comeback, and the overthrow to Gray. The overthrow stings the most, because it would likely have sealed the win. With that said, Alex did what he needed to do to break this ridiculous losing streak.

I don't have the words for the defense, the coaching, the game management, etc. Just don't.

I wake up this morning wondering if I'd hurt less had I not been there to watch the 2nd biggest choke job in NFL playoff history in person.

I still can't quite describe the feeling. After that strip-sack, I felt like what Nicky Santoro must have felt like on the drive to the cornfield in Casino. You know what's about to happen, you know it's going to be drug out, and you know there's not a ****ing thing you can do about it.

I will say the Colts fans that sat immediately around us were extremely classy. But leaving the stadium, it's painfully obvious that most NFL fans have no ****ing clue what it's like to be a Chiefs fan and get ****ing cockpunched time and time again over 20 years.

I got split up from Monty on the walk back to the hotel, and ended up going it alone. Here are some of the "condolence comments" I was graced with on the walk back:

"Yeah, I remember what it was like losing that Super Bowl. Know what you're feeling."

"Good game, and I'm sorry, bud. Trust me, we had Peyton Manning - so we know what it's like to lose in the playoffs."

God Bless 'em, they're thinking they are being nice, but just throwing gasoline into the crater in my chest where my heart used to be and lighting a match. People just don't get it.

Then to add insult to injury, we were kinda forced to decide to check out of the hotel a night early to try to beat the weather back to STL. It ended up being the right decision, but ****. Nothing like a 4 hour drive home after witnessing that meltdown. Or stopping in Terre Haute, Indiana for a bite to eat, only to hear, "I feel bad for you guys, but I'm a Steelers fan."

WHAT?

I started to remind this asshole that IIRC, they were just in the SB a few year back, and have a ****ton of Championships when he inexplicably says, "yeah, but I'm a Steelers fan." I just want to eat a quick meal and get home, and instead get to deal with this dipshit. I know he ended up having a conversation with Monty, but I was somewhere else - the food ended up in my stomach, but I have no idea how it got there. I feel bad for Monty, he spent a lot of money to fly up and make this trip and is likely stuck in the STL airport today, hoping he can eventually catch a flight out. What a nightmare. Hope the others that made the trip make it home safely.

Remember when some asshole said this?

**** it. I'm still going.

I'd feel a lot more confident if we play Indy. I think Cincinnati would destroy us.

I've been a fan of this franchise for over 30 years, and have never witnessed a playoff win in person, and obviously haven't seen one in any capacity in 20 years. As we all know, these opportunities don't come around often. Go when you can - who knows when you'll get to see another one live and in person.

I'd be ****ing disgusted with myself if we won and I had the chance to be there and passed.
Well, Clark, Andy and the organization - I think I'm more disgusted with myself that I fell hook, line and sinker for you ****ers yet again. I know the wound is still fresh, but as of right now, I'm not sure I want to see another game live and in person. If I'm going to be disappointed, it might as well be in the comfort of my own home, and for free. I think you're going to have to show me that you can win a playoff game before I invest the time, money and energy into witnessing a live game again. You've somehow found a way to create more pain in 28 minutes of a single game than you did going 2-14 in an entire season and then spending the #1 overall pick on a glass vagina of a RT.

If anyone needs me today, I'll be in my garage building a DeLorean. I'm going to go back to August 23, 1980 and punch 7 year-old-me in the ****ing face for deciding to become a fan of this franchise.
