How is this not a topic of discussion on a KC message board?

I don't know how these guys train cadaver dogs. It's kind of spooky, actually.

It seems like it would be impossible to get them to "Sit!", "Speak!", "Shake!", "Roll Over!", or anything, really. "Lay Down And Be Real Quiet!" would be about the only command I can see working.

Yes. I watched a documentary a few years ago on em and they are some really exceptional dogs. It's kinda like the special forces of doggy training. If they give a "hit" it's like 99% that a dead body was there.

There were quite a few extraordinary stories about some shit they were able to do.

I remember what it was. This one dog went like miles and miles, down the road and all over the ****ing place and actually located the body. Lemme see if I can dig up a story about it.

Nevermind, google is riddled with this story on a cadaver dog search.

Local cities and the county have police dog training in a park by my house. They are amazing. It's a very small percentage of acceptable dogs (no toy poodles, etc.) that even qualify. That small percentage is then tested/trained and only a small portion of that group are accepted to be "on the police force."

Yup. It's not like they grab some dogs from the kennel and let em smell a rotting arm and give em a milk bone. It's a VERY select group.

Do you know the name of the documentary? I'd be interested to see it.

Not sure. It was a few years ago. I really remember the story about the one where the dog was running down the road, nose to the ground, and ended up either finding the body in a trunk or someplace.

Rigamortis doesn’t start setting in for an hour or so and bloating, when the real juices start flowing, is noticeable around 24 hours. That was a serious question. What does it take, an hour? Less, more? If you don’t know it is acceptable to not answer.

I did some looking the other day, and I don't recall exactly, but it was very quick. And they said a dog can find a sunken body under running water that was fairly deep.
