Branden Albert... Chiefs first pick at 5?

I'm watching Total Access on NFL Network. Mayock and Charles Davis both have Albert listed in their top 7 players(both had him 7th). And they said while most think he is going to go at #23 to Pittsburgh to replace Fanica, that isn't going to happen. They said people will be shocked to hear that with someones top 10 selection, that Branden Albert OT is the pick. That is everyone but people in the NFL that know what they are talking about.

PS - they showed game film breakdown of his technique and footwork as to why he is in the top 7. Mayock said "he is the best in-space interior offensive lineman I have ever seen".

I could see the Pats taking a gamble on a kid like this.

If anyone thinks a guard is going in the top ten, they need to be taken behind their house and summarily executed.

Leonard Davis went 2nd overall in 2001

Kyle Turley went 7th overall in 1998

Chris Naeole went 10th overall in 1997

They were all listed as G on NFL.com draft history site.

Depends how much stock you put into Mayock's word. He said today that he has the best inside blocking technique that he has ever seen.

That's a link of footage of Albert (#71) against Maryland. I didn't watch the whole thing, but from what I saw I don't see a top 15 pick. He has very good feet and is able to pull very well, but he doesn't seem to make all the blocks and lock on well. It starts off with him getting beat and the defender flushing the QB for a sack.

Turley and Davis were drafted because they were expected to play tackle. Period. Just because you start a guy for one year at guard to get him to learn the ropes, doesn't mean that he's a true guard.

It does if he ends up back at guard after not making it at tackle like Leonard.

quick feet. Great punch. Vicious punch. Would have been moved to LT this year but they have a first round talent coming out next year who didnt have time to learn G because of injury. Albert still played a couple of games at LT for him and dominated. Not sure about #5...

Quick math lesson - if he is rated #7 - you do not take him at #5. 5>7 Simple math.

Mayock is a joke. He lost my respect when he announced that Darren McFadden couldn't break tackles a few weeks after he ran roughshod over the 3rd best defense in college football last year.
