On a side note, I watched Mazzaro dismantle the isotopes yesterday. It was a good outing for him. The rest of the team somehow scraped together some infield hits and converted them into runs.

OK, if anyone was thinking about using the ROYALS5 code for a papa john's pizza, it only works in the greater kansas city area.

However, there is another code valid only yesterday and today to get the same deal (half off your online order) nationwide. Use promo code EW50 (It works, I just placed an order)

For the classic baseball fans , here is an interesting article published in Popular Science in 1921 on "Why Babe Ruth is Greatest Home-Run Hitter".

I was watching Baseball Tonight and they showed Ruth highlights and his belly was just protruding Goodman style and I thought, how the hell was he so good? Rany's article "Dominated" mentions Alex Gordons crazy good healthy habits and that being a good sign for future metrics, and yet the best baseball player ever was overweight & liked his booze and cigars.

Yet another reason baseball is the BEST sport on Earth. The greatest player to ever play the game was a guys guy.

Bob Dutton ‏ @Royals_Report

#Royals manager Ned Yost says he dropped CF Lorenzo Cain from second to seventh in lineup to protect 3B Mike Moustakas.

Bob Dutton ‏ @Royals_Report

Dropping Cain meant finding another RH hitter to bat second to avoid three lefties at top of order. Settled on Alcides Escobar.

Looks like we want to force pitchers to throw Moose a few more strikes.

Interesting move, moving Escobar all the way up to second in the lineup. Let's hope he can keep his offensive performance at the level it was at the end of last year and spring training this year.

For those of you worried about Moose; while BP is not the greatest indicator, he seems to be just a touch off. But he is belting them today. One thing does worry me: he's laying down bunts in BP.
I hate seeing that.

Nope, he's a high-OBP guy, and has always been a high OBP guy. During his bad years, they were bad because of a lack of power, he's always taken walks. He may not have lightning wheels, but he's also our only on base guy who isn't too slow to lead off. He also has good baserunning instincts.

We'll see how it goes with Cain and Escobar, but right now, we've got no one who is obviously better to bat at the top.

So what's the scoop on Sanchez? Was he one of our big FA acquisitions?

Sanchez is a crazy enigma. Very high potential risk/reward.

His stuff is supposed to be terrific and almost un-hittable, and he was a big part of helping the Giants win in 2010. His big tragic weakness is that he sometimes loses the plate and starts walking the whole lineup. 2010 is a prime example, where he was terrific for San Francisco with tons of strikeouts, despite leading the entire freaking national league in walks.

That is the challenge for our pitching coach, to fix his control problems that no one else has been able to fix. If we want to have even a slim chance at the playoffs this season, Sanchez has got to abruptly figure it out and turn into the world-beater almost-ace pitcher that many people had been expecting him to become for the Giants. If he doesn't stop walking people, his time in KC will be another sad chapter in his "what could have been" story.

Oh yeah, Sanchez also narrowly missed a perfect game and had to settle for a no-hitter. That sort of sums him up in a nutshell, he is talented enough to get a legit no-fluke no-hitter, yet the Giants were still willing to trade him off for some offense because he walks too many people.

I'm still mixed on the trade. I love that we acquired a legit #3, with potential #2 stuff, but losing Melky could hurt our run production.

I am all for Cain, but Melky was only 27 and had a huge year last year. I think I would have rather traded Cain and kept Melky for Sanchez, but that trade probably wasn't on the table. Cains defense is far and away better than Melky's, probably rendering my entire post pointlesss.

Melky had one good season. Trading him was absolutely the right thing to do. Cain projects to be better than Melky at the plate anyway and has ridiculous defense in CF. Our OF is not a safe place to hit. Every one of those guys has range and a cannon.

His BABIP also leapt over 40 points in 2011 compared to the prior 3 years.

I'm not saying he'll suck, but he had a career year, and we may have traded him off at the height of his value.

I wasn't really paying attention this offseason. Where did Hudler and Physioc come from? and what's going on with LeFebvre?

I'm completely out of the loop...

They fired Frank.

LeFebvre is doing like half the games.

The other half are these generic sounding bores.

And Hudler is a weird born again type as well which I don't like. He's real preachy and shit.

eh, you are technically correct, but I'm not going to freak on that. We'd go from a 1 in 1,000 chance of them somehow screwing up the Cain rundown, to a 2 in 1,000 chance of them screwing up the throw home. Its just a nice easy standing toss to home from the hole.
