McNutt makes sense for a team like Indy or Redskins.

I agree. He makes sense for Miami too.

Looks to me like McCluster is entrenched at RB behind Charles.

Yep. One plays RB, the other WR. We just added more speed. I don't know why this picks means they need to get rid of Dex.

Do you think taking Vontaze Burfict in the 5th would be a good choice? Yes he has off the field problems and failed drug test (like Houston) however as a 5th round pick, I think it is worth the gamble. I doubt he makes it to the 7th round and would be surprised if he makes it to the 6th honestly. He has to much potential to pass up and contracts can be written to protect the chiefs organization if he pulls the same off field shit as he did in college. We took a gamble with Houston and it paid off, might be the same with Burfict and if the gamble works, talk about an amazing LB core!

With their first 4 picks, the Steelers have taken 3 players I had going to us, just not in the same order. I had us taking DeCastro, then Ta'amu, then Spence. There's a reason why the Steelers contend for championships almost every year while we haven't won a playoff game in almost 20 years. . .

Ben Roethlisberger?

Since 2007, Devon Wylie has touched the ball only 58 times. It resulted in almost 1,000 yards, 7 td's, and a lot of excitement. Wylie missed the 2010 season due to a surgically repaired navicular fracture in his left foot. In 2011, he will return to the field potentially faster than the 4.25 forty that he ran in 2009

Let me clarify.

A 5' nothing WR is not a legitimate deep threat with Matt Cassel as his QB.

I woke up in a good mood today because it occurred to me that this draft has RAC's fingerprints all over it, which leads me to believe that Pioli might be deferring to him more. Romeo had no problem yanking Charlie Frye after he sucked in the first game and putting DA in in Cleveland. It gives me hope that the best QB on the roster might actually play most of the season (I realize that better than bad doesn't equal good).

I may be totally off base here but I'm rolling with until proven otherwise. :D

I think we are seeing that Pioli is letting Romeo have some say in his team, whereas he was an arrogant prick with Haley. There are definitely hints that the Chiefs are placing a greater priority on the QB position and I hope that's true. Then again, they talked about going after Peyton, there were talks about going after Stanton, and they hinted at looking heavily into Cousins. They didn't do any of those things, so who the fuck knows.

It's a sad reality that barring some kind of miracle, Cassel is probably going to start every game this season. I can only hope for a wild card that somebody in KC is super-impressed with Stanzi or that Daboll's history with Brady Quinn puts him at starter. And even those options don't make me want to do cartwheels.

Because he is a shitty RB who now has no other value to the team.

He is good enough for 3rd string behind Charles and Hillis (as long as they don't draft someone else today). He gives a different dimension, like Wylie at WR compared to what we already have there.

I wouldn't just cut him, he has value.

I get the impression that Pioli looks up to Crennel. Crennel was a head coach before and has a bunch of rings as a coordinator. Pioli probably felt that he had to reign in Haley and protect Haley from himself where he doesn't have to do that with Romeo.

He doesn't add any dimension we don't already have, IMO. Breaston does better what Wright would do.

If he is a Welker type of WR, he will be doing a lot of shorter routes in hopes he breaks one. Quoted wrong comment.

Four years ago, the Dolphins opted for a left tackle over a franchise quarterback, taking Jake Long instead of Matt Ryan with the first pick in the draft. With the Dolphins using a first-round pick in 2012 on the player they hope will become the team’s next franchise quarterback, the Dolphins also may have acquired their next cornerstone left tackle.

Mike Berardino of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel believes that the arrival of Jonathan Martin via round two could eventually mean the end of the line for Long.

Martin played sparingly at right tackle during his college career, and if the Dolphins decide to move on from Long, Martin could take over on the left side.

As Berardino explains it, with the Dolphins admittedly transforming their approach, Long may not fit in the new-look offense. “We’re not going to be as much a power scheme as we’ve been in the past,” G.M. Jeff Ireland said when discussing the decision to take Martin. “So his athletic ability and . . . quickness and ability to play in space transfers to this scheme probably a lot better than any other scheme.”

Long is due to receive a base salary $11.2 million in 2012. Long recently proclaimed that he’s the healthiest he has been in a long time.

He's a typical 5th round pick. He'll either be a run-stop DE or maybe play inside. A rotational guy. He makes more sense at DE in a 3-4, though, so kind of strange for Denver. He'll need to add weight to play DT and he's not a speed rusher off the edge.

which has nothing to do with poe being a better football player....

one team drafted him based solely on his physical dimensions

no one can make the argument poe is a better player...that was settled by their performance in college

poe might have a better nfl career...but that has nothing to do with who is a better player right nowThat raises the question of what you draft for, now or for the career. I'd say both, leaning (maybe heavily) towards career.

The faster Poe develops, the better, though.

STRENGTHS Menzie is a very instinctual corner who relies on his ability to anticipate the throw and break on the ball to disrupt passes. He is a strong player when working in tight space and can use his agility and foot quickness to stay on a receiver's hip. He is a strong player in zone and understands when to take chances and jump routes. He scans the entire field and helps when needed in these schemes. He never shies away from contact and is a productive tackler working from the outside-in.

WEAKNESSES Menzie is a solid all-around prospect who has fluid hips and athletic ability, which he relies on too heavily at times. He takes chances in man coverage that could hurt him at the next level.

Menzie has some hitches in his athletic ability that will make for a tough transition to the NFL. He is consistently around the ball, however, and making splash plays for the decorated Crimson Tide defense. Positives: A versatile and flexible athlete with good foot quickness. Started 20 games the last two years, lining up inside and outside. Tough and scrappy with the forceful nature to be physical at all levels of the field. Has good bulk on his frame to be aggressive in run support. Strong hands to make plays on the ball, effective blitzer who shows well-coached technique and awareness. Negatives: Has below-average measureables for the position and lacks ideal length. Has only average long speed and lacks the natural change-of-direction skills and vertical ability to play blanket man coverage. Lacks natural explosion to make up for false steps. A- Grade
DeQuan Menzie can play both cornerback and safety. Coincidentally, the Chiefs needed depth in both areas, especially the latter, since Romeo Crennel loves having three safeties on the field. Menzie was ranked No. 80 on Mike Mayock's big board, so he provides really good value in Round 5.

DTLB58
04-28-2012, 12:36 PM
Notes:

Was a prep standout in Georgia before attending Copiah-Lincoln Community College (Miss.) for two years, where he recorded 40 tackles and six interceptions in 2008 and 51 tackles and one interception in ’09 as a two-year starter. At Alabama, suffered a torn Achilles in April ’10 but returned to start the season opener against San Jose State. Played in 12 games (six starts), in ’10, recording 33 tackles, four pass breakups and zero interceptions with five tackles for loss and two sacks. Made two starts at RCB spot and four as a nickel back. Started all 13 games for the national champions in ’11 and totaled 41-11-1 with four tackles for loss, 1 1⁄2 sacks. Returned his lone interception 25 yards for a TD against Arkansas. Suffered a left shoulder injury at the Senior Bowl and did not run at the Combine because of a strained right hamstring.
Positives:

Good size. Reads and reacts quickly. Very physical — willing tackler who tries to square and wrap up ballcarriers. Aware in zone — plays with his eyes and passes off receivers. Good ball reactions. Is versatile and has experience playing the slot. Is well-respected and possesses terrific character. Dependable producer.
Negatives:

Has short arms and small hands. Marginal speed and twitch for the cornerback position. Limited in man coverage — loses ground at the break point and struggles to shadow more athletic receivers. Has a 33-inch vertical jump.
Summary:

Tough, competitive college cornerback who projects better to safety, where his physicality plays better. Might not have the juice to start, but could be a solid backup for a zone team and become a fourth safety and special-teams producer. Has make-it qualities and will find a way to contribute. Scouts have compared him to a poor man’s version of Houston Texans starting SS Glover Quin.

Things got a little out there for ol' ROR, and I had to disappear for a few months. But, things are well now.

That's about all I want to say on the subject.

You were blowing goats for a living?

Good to have you back.

Anybody else thinking Vontaze in the 6th FTW?

I don't care how crazy he is, that is legit first round talent in the 6th round. I'm actively hoping for it.

Oh, and everyone better be getting ready to root for Quinn. Cuz the QB dream of this year is fucking dead.

How was jail, ROR?

So you're "Satanic Goat" now? LMAO

Jail was short and sweet. The path leading to it was long and full of misadventures.

Burfict's problem isn't that he's crazy; it's that he's stupid.
