I recently purchased a Sonos Move (https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/move.html), and I am really digging the versatility and quality of the sound. It's pricey, but if you're obsessed with quality like I am, it's a no-brainer type of purchase for a portable speaker (wi-fi AND bluetooth to boot!).

I have the sonos surround in my living room, playbar, 2 1's, sub, it's expensive as shit but very very nice.

I would be remiss if I forget this device. Amazing...

http://www.armchairempire.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Teeter-Hangups-EP-960.jpg

I have a Teeter exactly like that one, got it at Dick's on sale for $250 at Christmas 3 years ago. I had very bad lower back pain and couldn't walk around the grocery store or the mall without sitting down every 5 minutes. I had a X-ray and they said I had a degenerative L1 thru L5, and I was 67 at the time, so they said it's not going to get better and I needed fusion surgery.

I told my doctor let me try a couple of things first. I spent $1900 and 3 weeks with a chiropractor, total waste of time. Then I bought the inversion table and started out with just a slight inversion for only about 5 minutes a day. Every week I increased the amount to where now I'm about 170 degrees inverted. All my back pain went away after about 5 weeks, it's the greatest thing ever. It doesn't work for everyone, I recommended to 3 people at the gym and they all said it didn't help. I guess they don't give it enough time or can't stand being inverted.

To say the least I'm one of the ones it has worked for. And I 100% wanted to avoid the recurring costs of a chiropractor! That being said, I progressed through the green, orange and red setting on the tether in a few days, now I've got it disconnected and have the hinges all the way in, so I'm getting the maximum stretch right now. And the puppies love it when "I'm hanging"... But 2-3 minutes in the morning, sometimes at lunch too, and then in the evening have done good things for me. :thumb:

That's next on my list. I'm pretty stoked to get into the Sonos ecosystem. I like their engineering and the quality seems very high.

Did you really say 203 minutes? I have never done more than once a day and ten minutes the most. Now after 3 years I only need five minutes about 4 days a week and my back is fine.

Sorry, 2-3 minutes... But usually twice a day, sometimes 3 times a day. Perhaps I should upgrade to 10 minutes..

I'll try 10, but prolly not at full inversion, I'll try 40 degrees and see how that feels, then 60 degrees.

Thanks for the advice and tips..

Put one in the garage, and holy shit. Literally night and day difference. I should get one for the basement as well.

Can't recall who recommended this, or one similar, in the Prime thread but I bought one today. Looking forward to being able to see what I'm doing in the garage this winter.

I recommended these in the prime thread. They were super cheap those few days, not that they are that expensive anyways. About the same cost as LED shop lights if not cheaper, but without the hassle of running cords. I can’t recommend them enough for any unfinished space.

I almost didn't post the photo because I knew that would get some grief. However, I bought helmet in 2001 when they won SB XXXV, so I've had it a long time. Can I help that I was born in Baltimore, however I live in Florida now which is actually where I grew up.

My Sony amp is only 5.1 but since I only really turn it up when we're watching youtube videos, most of the stuff on there you're lucky to get any kind of surround. That's what I like about my amp, it can simulate surround and add about 20 different audio choices. I consider upgrading to a Denon or something similar since my amp is about 20 years old but it really serves the purpose. I found Polk makes decent stuff at a fair price when it comes to speakers.

I have a 60" Vizio in the BR that I bought in 2012 and it's still going strong. The only bad thing when there that old is the app, but a ROKU takes care of that. My 2017 75" Samsung shown in the other photo I already had to replace the power board which was $175 plus labor.

I think when this Samsung gives out next time I'm not fixing it, going with another Vizio 75" or LG. I've got all LG appliances in the kitchen and W/D in the garage and they work great and I've heard good things about their TV's.

I have a Sony DG 720 I bought in early 2000s for $200 at Best Buy. They've been discontinued but I think I got a lot of bang for buck. It put out 95 watts to each speaker up to 7 speakers. I never turn it above volume 40 which is less than half. In a masonry house with all the doors and windows closed, I can stand in the backyard and it will sound like a radio is on in the backyard from inside the house. It has all the power I need.

Probably if I lived in a bigger home and used the stereo strictly for music. When I retired to my villa in 2011 I got rid of 4,000 albums and my turntable and now it's live video is all I care to watch and listen. I feel the need to see it as well as hear it. What would do with all this stereo equipment in front of my lounge chairs.

Mildly interesting story, I bought a pair of similar looking tower speakers ~20 years ago in KC after a friend bought a pair out of some guy's truck who was driving around asking random people if they wanted to buy speakers. Apparently they had a warehouse of them, minus a marketing strategy to reach customers.

They still work great and will shake the house at high volume.

When I was in Korea we all had Sansui and Pioneer speakers and I thought they sounded great, especially for what I paid. I eventually blew out the Pioneers in the 80's back when I had a record store and they were in use all day and at loud volumes at times.

I had bought these Sansui's in the photo in 1984 for my home, they're still going strong after 36 years of use. I think the big ones were $300 and the shorter ones were $200, so that $1,000 for the four brand new in a stereo store. I just saw a pair sell for $100 on eBay but you have to pick them up yourself.

I've mentioned it elsewhere, and this is super niche use, but if you have two cats (or dogs I suppose) that you free feed different foods, these gizmos are great. They read the cats' chips (or a tag on their collar) so that only the appropriate cat can get to food.

They're not cheap ($150), but they're great if you have a need.

Yes, it's dual gas. We have it hooked to propane because we live in the country. It takes eight seconds, I believe.

Lame compared to the cool stuff others buy but yesterday I picked up 100 lbs. of cracked corn and piled it up on my bottom ground for the pheasants since -26 degrees with snow on the ground has to suck. This morning I watched them dancing around scratching in it like it was Christmas.

And then did you shoot them?

Assuming you didn't, that was a nice thing to do.

Out of curiosity, what does 100 lbs. of cracked corn cost, and can humans eat it?

Nah, I don't shoot them. I grew up in a hunting family so I did hunt them for a year or two when I bought the ground and built the house. After watching what they have to go through in a year I now try to help them out. I will however let anyone hunt that stops to ask.

With the high price of corn and beans they have lost a lot of habitat when farmers till over their ground. Farmers have to survive too. Before that happened one morning I counted 87 scratching around in the surrounding fields. The flock on my ground is down to a dozen so I try to keep them fed during the winter.

100 lbs. cracked corn cost me $20. I'm pretty sure if you had a pestle and mortar you could make some pretty awful tasting tortillas.

Been pretty happy with my Polk audio speaker setup. Went budget so the wife wouldn't lose her mind and these are nice speakers for the price. They're all wired and put out more than enough of what I need. Got a couple towers, couple bookshelfs and a sub for $600.

Dude at NFM was pretty high on them for the price point and I'd read enough reviews to feel comfy but they've exceeded my expectations a few months in.

Tuffy locking trunk for my FJ Cruiser. Not only does it keep stuff safe - it adds more storage space by dividing up the back area (you're rarely stacking stuff to the ceiling from the floor).

If you're like me or Chiefs fans or professional wrestlers or ... you know, some other types of people, you probably wish there was an easy way to shave your head.

I've traditionally shaved my head with a razor. It takes a bit of time, and if you skip a few days it becomes a more involved process. After I started working at home, I stopped doing it and my wife disliked my glossy silvery monk fringe for some reason.

I bought the Skullshaver Pitbull Gold Pro, and it was delivered today.

I tried it out in the shower today, and with little effort I now once again look kind of crazy and dangerous. There's nary a hair on my head, and I've made the fashion transition back from "Catholic Monk" to "Thai Monk."

I've only used it once, but based on my initial experience I award the Skullshaver Pitbull Gold Pro a grade of A.

I have a similar one I got on Amazon. I always used a razor, but I had rotator cuff surgery last august and my right arm was limited and I don’t trust my left one with a razor lol. If you make espressos or cappuccinos, a burr grinder is a must have. It's not the absolute best you can get, but it's very good and at $100 its a lot cheaper than most of the other high end jobs.

Perfectly uniform and controllable grind.

Wanna turn your kids power wheels into monsters and have about 20 spare batteries sitting around for when it dies on the way to the pool? Here's the way to go.

You take out the 12v battery and housing. You cut the wires and splice this little guy in instead. Then you just take any DeWalt 20v lithium ion you have sitting around and plug it in. Not only does the car start leaving skid-marks when they drive it, but you can put 3 batteries in the same space where the 12v used to sit and you never have to worry about getting stranded.

I wired in an additional fuse and a voltage regulator as well so I could dial it down a bit when they were first learning, but they're not necessary really.

We put the big kid in the pickup with the twin daughter and load a bunch of crap into the bed to go the the swimming pool. Then we put the boy in the police car (with sirens blaring, of course. Because...boy) to run blocker for them as we send our convoy up the road.

Oh sure, he'll get bored and start ramming them, but that's kinda what boys are for.

I've had it for around 6 months. So far the crease doesn't seem to be getting any worse from use and I'm a heavy user. It is visible, but it really isn't very noticeable especially at night. I find myself more and more just opening it up to do whatever I want to do and it's not a bothersome exercise. Alot of times I Just leave it open indefinitely if I know it's not going to be in my pocket.

This guy is amazing. I know many try to be manly and say how it's dumb to have a cell phone with all the bells and whistles but the reality is it's 2022 and your phone is one of your most important possessions. Very much worth it.

My new "Putin long table" is gonna be a great centerpiece in my entertainment room. And with the drop in the ruble against the dollar I got a fantastic price this morning! It ships from Vladivostok so might take a while to get here but will definitely be worth it. I'm gonna make everybody sit at the other end and threaten them with the gulag if they don't do my bidding.

The biggest con of the phone is the front screen which has still been much improved since the previous iterations.

I want one of those big time. I went with the zFlip 3 instead ($$), and I have to say I'm not super impressed. The folding is fine, but the battery is crap. How's the battery life on that?

You'd better hope that it's not shipping out through the Black Sea, or it's going to very delayed.

I wonder what those switches are for on the side of the table. I bet Putin's controls electric shocks to the other chairs, but what do the other ones do?

Oh, maybe each one controls electric shocks to the chair in front of it. So when Putin gets mad at you, you have to sit in your chair and watch him walk all the way down to you to flip the switch.

It honestly could be better, but it's my fault. I leave it open indefinitely alot when I don't have to. I'm a heavy user though. I'd say it's probably a con, but barely. It's not terrible battery.

I'm pretty impressed with how sturdy and strong it is. It doesn't seem flimsy and I've had no issues with fragility of the inside screen.

The 8 Sleep Pod Pro Cover is amazing. I've slept so much better since getting it a month or two ago. It uses water to keep your bed at your optimum temp. It monitors your heart rate and breathing to know if you're in deep sleep or REM. I've also tried the Ooler system which helped me sleep but isn't as advanced as the 8 Sleep. If anyone wants a King (2 twin XL pads) Ooler setup for cheap let me know. (EDIT: Ooler spoken for)

Our Sams Club Shark IQ has been amazing. The damn lab just seems to shed non-stop and this keeps our house from looking quite as disgusting.

https://scene7.samsclub.com/is/image/samsclub/0062235655953_A?$DT_Zoom$

It's our third go with each one we've tried getting successively better (our last one was a Euphy and it was a big step up from the POS we had before that).

But the dust collection is nice and the mapping/phone app feature is INCREDIBLE. Rather than do that silly bounce in erratic patterns thing that most do, it just drives to the room you tell it to drive to (when you tell it to drive there) and runs rows back and forth. Then if you just have it do the whole home it will.

If the battery dies mid-clean, it goes back to its station, empties its dust bucket, re-charges its batter and then picks up where it left off.

It really does a damn nice job. And when one of the wheel motors died, we called them and they sent us a whole new unit (so now we have spares in case another part gives out).

In like 2008 I let a door to door salesman talk me into buying a Kirby vacuum.

It was NOT one of my prouder moments. We just gave it away after like 3 years.

Damn thing weighed like 800 lbs and the cleaning lady refused to even use it. We kept it as a carpet cleaner for a bit but it did a lousy job so we just got a steam cleaner and ditched it.

Zojirushi Rice Cooker. It's an obscene amount of money to pay for a rice cooker but god damn does this thing make my life easy. Keeps the rice warm for days if you want it to, easy to clean and the rice comes out perfect every time. I have the 5.5 cup version that also has a steamer that you can steam vegetables with also.

Would recommend for anyone who eats rice weekly, this also helped me with meal prepping quite a bit.

My wife is a bit of a vacuum hoarder driven by an irrational disgust of hair. Her hair, my hair, pet hair, floor rug fuzz that might resemble hair, a long thin shadow, etc. As a result we have a robot vac for each floor, a cordless vac, and like 3 different Bissell's each with their own specialty (handheld, pet hair, and shampoo combo).

On the weekends it sounds like a manufacturing plant in here.

Just cracks me up. He's scared of it, but just too damn bull headed to run away from it like a normal dog, so he just decides he's going to cow it into submission. And invariably it bumps into him, triggers its sensor, turns around and leaves him with a sense of accomplishment.

The model I have is the NS-TSC10/18 which I paid around $225 at the time, might be able to find it cheaper. Haha I can't speak for the quality of the $525 version but I do know the top end models are a rice cooker + pressure cooker. I've heard the fancy models will adjust the heat while cooking depending on how much water you've added to ensure the fluffiest rice, which essentially makes them idiot proof. Probably some additional bells and whistles also.

Not sure about the $56 one but probably doesn't have the delay setting, the extending keep warm setting (I've kept rice warm for 36 hours before, no idea what its limit is) and maybe doesn't cook all types of rice well. I'd imagine that the cheap rice cooker just heats from the bottom as opposed to surrounding the rice with heat.

I decided to get a Zojirushi for a present she used it once and it set for an entire year on the counter. She dragged out her stovetop rice steamer. Wireless charging pad. And i velcro'd that bitch down too and tied the power cable in with the rest of the cables behind my desk so no one can even think about snatching it.

The days of people trying to jack/borrow my charging cable are over. Get your own charging cable you assholes, i use a pad now.

That is a good idea.

I bought the Skullshaver Pitbull Gold Pro, and it was delivered today.

https://skullshaver.com/collections/mens-shavers/products/pitbull-gold-pro-head-and-face-shaver

I tried it out in the shower today, and with little effort I now once again look kind of crazy and dangerous. There's nary a hair on my head, and I've made the fashion transition back from "Catholic Monk" to "Thai Monk."

I've only used it once, but based on my initial experience I award the Skullshaver Pitbull Gold Pro a grade of A.

https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0255/0156/4962/products/Pitbull-GOLD-full-size-logo-5_1080x_78dda2fc-4f30-4e2a-8f98-194e5e203c9a_720x.jpg?v=1643706271

If you get a chance, would you mind giving a review after using it 3-4 times? I'm holding off to see if you still like it before buying.

Super easy/lazy way burn some lbs. I bought it 3 weeks ago to augment my attempts at rowing and lifting at the gym. I'm averaging 150 cal per hour. I am using the tether strap from my chair to the bike since I have slippery floors. The down side is that my chair is locked to my desk. It is great while on the phone or surfing. A little difficult to use and type.

Carrie Underwood uses it as an aid. If that matters.

How much did it run you?

~ $170. Keep in mind they recommend at least 27" vertical clearance. Mine is an enclosed desk that is only 23" clearance. The front of the machine up against the wooden front wall. That puts the front of my chair out 27" thus clears the desk surface. So during the "up" position (27") my knees clear the desk surface. My keyboard slides out, so that helps. Again, it is hard to type and peddle.

They have one that that is a little lower and $10-20 more. They have a stepper as well.

Again, down side, my chair is tethered to my desk.

I am thinking about getting another one for at home.

The longest I have peddled is 1.5 hrs. ~225 cal burnt. After an hour, when I stand up, my legs are a bit wobbly.

I made my third use today and still like it.

One thing hidden in the instruction manual is that it says that it should only be used for a couple of days of growth, because longer hair will clog it up. So the first time I used it, I started out with my normal buzz cut trimmers to get the length down, then followed up with the Pitbull to do the clean shave.

I'm saying this because you need to use the Pitbull every couple of days to keep from having to do a two-step process. But it's easy to use and showerproof, so I just keep it in the shower and buzz it during my morning shower.

The Gold version has a lightup battery indicator, and it looks like I'm good for about 16 shaves before needing to recharge it. If I shave every second day, I'm good for a month.

One thing that I've noticed is that it's kind of hard to shave the mustache area. The blade wheels are big enough that it's weird to jam them between my nose and upper lip. So I've had to do a little augment there with a regular razor, but that's no big dea.

Overall I'm still giving it a Grade of A. Ask me again in a month.

This guy is amazing. I know many try to be manly and say how it's dumb to have a cell phone with all the bells and whistles but the reality is it's 2022 and your phone is one of your most important possessions. Very much worth it.

https://cdn.pocket-lint.com/r/s/970x/assets/images/157961-phones-review-hands-on-samsung-galaxy-z-fold-3-review-image1-coz70vermc-jpg.webp

I got the 3 the day it launched, just traded it in for the new S22+ about a week ago. It's cool to use at home and that huge screen is nice, but its not practical for using at work...at all. I'ts dangerous to keep it open when you're out and about, and closed the outside screen is too damn narrow/small to use effectively. It's also worthless trying to dock for GPS/Maps unless you want to spend a small fortune for a windshield dock that will hold it while it's open. Great idea, but after the novelty of it wore off I wanted to go back to a regular phone.

Just to add, if you have a desk job obviously my comment about not being able to use at work probably doesn't apply...my job I'm driving around all day and in/out of my vehicle a lot.

User tip. The ads imply that you just run the thing over your head once. It doesn't work like that. You have to cruise around your head three to six times to really get it shaved, but it's fast to do that.

Just like a Norelco on the whiskers. Also those radial shavers always leave a few flyers that only a blade will nip.

A foil shaver would probably get you one pass results but those foil refills are spendy and fragile.

My Wolf commercial blender is something of a monster:

https://assets.wsimgs.com/wsimgs/ab/images/dp/wcm/202139/0097/img91o.jpg

I was really just price-enforcing during a charity auction and got the thing for about 1/2 of what it lists for. It's pretty incredible.

I make a potato leak soup where I can just throw the stock/cream in the pot with some potatoes, garlic and leaks that I roast first. Then about 4-5 slices of bacon. I hit the 'soup' switch and it runs it's program for about 5 minutes (speeds up and slows down to pull ingredients down and create a good vortex) and then shuts down. It spins fast enough to heat the soup to right at 200 degrees. Then I throw some chedder in there and pulse until it's melted and toss the other half of the roasted potatoes and some chopped bacon in there.

It completely purees all the leak, potato and bacon I started with so you get that flavor in every bite, but then you also have the texture of the chunks of potatoes and bacon.

I make peanut butter in it, hummus, sorbets, hollandaise sauce, roux, blackberry pancake syrup - all kinds of unique things you can do with it. Obviously stuff like smoothies and cocktails are no problem but I've even made almond milk with it before just to dick around.

If you think there's any chance on this earth I'd pay $700 for a blender, you must think I'm FAR better at my job than I am.

I threw a bid in at like $275 because it's an auction we've gone to every year for a decade or so. A long time ago I got drunk and ended up spending way too much on an autographed jersey (8 Cardinals HoFers, man!) so the organizer of the event knows us pretty well and it's a really good cause for MU Childrens hospital. This was also back before the standard deduction doubled and I drove a lot for work so I itemized and could write most of it off (this was my justification anyway).

So now I'll go out there and just mass bid on shit that looks stalled trying to push the prices up if they seem to low to me. Sometimes I end up with weird crap like a chunk of fender off Jamie McMurray's crashed racecar. But usually it works out pretty well.

I honestly forgot I'd even bid on it until I went to the 'pay for your stuff' line and they gave me the bill. But I ended up getting Tommy Edman autographed cleats and both an Arenado and Molina signed game bat. Got a lot of cool shit and it's my version of Christmas morning - "Hey! Look what I got!"

That's cool as shit man.

TECHNICALLY, you aren't supposed to deduct anything in which you got something back, like a $700 blender. The rules say you have to have documentation that says "no goods or services were exchanged..." or some such shit. But hell man, as much tax fraud as there is in the world today, fire away.

FWIW, they added a line last year where you can deduct up to $600 of contributions as an inline deduction outside of the Schedule A. My accountant said you damn well better have documentation on it, but it's a decent little help on people who actually give for the sake of giving.

And your house will still smell like cheap detergent mixed with ammonia and the faint smell of urea! All so a mercurial creature that doesn't even like you can put its butthole on your kitchen table when you're not around.

My wife is a soft hearted creature. LOVES all animals. All of them. But wants no part of a cat. Her roommate in college had one and after that her position was very clearly that she wanted no part of that thing that walks all over where they piss and shit and then jump on your table and counters where my food is.

Good, honey, cosigned.

I don't have the heart to tell her there isn't a huge difference between that and the dog that's in the house, but I don't really want cats inside. Big proponent of farm cats though. I didn't think I was, but if they're not completely worthless, they'll earn their feed back in mouse control.

How do you finish it?

We've tried several approaches - hot wood fire, deep fry, oven.

So far the wood fire yields the best results but you need a big ass outdoor pizza oven to manage it (my FIL has one so we're good there). I guess the right kind of smoker/cooker could manage it but you need really high heat if you do the Sous Vide first. Something like a Traeger just won't get hot enough.

I don't really love mine. I mean it's fine, but it's not the world changer I'd hoped it would be.

Best advise I can give you on any mattress purchase is to ignore any reviews - they just don't matter. It's all too subjective.

Go find an authorized dealer for Purple or any of the other 'big' mattress companies and then lay on stuff until you find what you want. And go through a company that offers a return period. The Purple we laid on at the mattress shop was just a tick softer than the one we ended up with. And I confirmed that it was the Purple 3 both times.

Sometimes things are just different in how they're manufactured. I probably should've sent mine back but I was just too lazy. And over the last several years I've gotten used to it and it's fine now.

But mattress purchases are almost 100% user specific.

Agreed.

Although it's tough for me to get to a bunch of these places because BFE.

I ordered one from Casper, and thankfully it's good, because they vacuum seal every molecule of air out of the bag. I'd read some stuff about how there is a liberal return policy, but it's hard to get it repackaged.

But I agree. I read a million reviews and there wasn't anything to discern.

But mattress purchases are almost 100% user specific.

Thanks!

I'll always be a proponent of Sleep Number mattresses. I love being able to adjust how firm it is depending on how I'm feeling, and my wife and I can have different settings as well. They cost a lot, but we're at around 10 years with ours, and no issues at all so far.

Been putting these through their paces, aside from a reputation for marginal battery life per recharge [6hr], they are extraordinary for the price.

Not a lot of boutique features or cutting edge tech, but high-quality build [almost everything is aluminium in a market that's full of plastic] and among the best sound quality I've encountered.

The 'MSRP' of $150 is a tad ambitious, but the current price direct from the manufacturer of $48 is one of the biggest no-brainer bargains out there in this particular niche.

I’ve flushed an earbud, lost an earbud and a dog ate another one. So I have two lefts and a right from different brands.

May have to give those a look. I won’t spend more than $50 given my track record with them, but that seems like quality tech.

Just got our first Sleep number last winter. Love it. I'm sleeping better and feeling more rested when I get up.

Only complaints I have....

- Adjustable base. Bought the one you can adjust both feet & head. I thought I'd be using it every night, but I find myself not using it at all. If I bought again I'd skip it.

- Automatic sensing. I found that when it firms/softens based on my movement that I felt like I was sinking into the bed. Ended up turning that off and I've slept more comfortably since.

Neither are really complaints - just features I probably could have done without.

So regarding the earbuds - of my misadventures w/ destroyed or lost earbuds, these are my favorites so far:

https://www.amazon.com/TOZO-Cancelling-Headphones-Waterproof-Bluetooth/dp/B085NPCQLT/ref=sr_1_5?crid=34CRPZBA8NOXS&keywords=noise+cancelling+earbuds&qid=1646858681&s=electronics&sprefix=noise+cancelling+earbuds%2Celectronics%2C95&sr=1-5

You can find the reviews for the AKGs on Amazon and they're not as good. Moreover, even the reviews on the manufacturer's website aren't great (and tend to mesh closely with the amazon review, giving both some credence).

I guess I'm kinda curious what makes these better? The Tozo's were very good; sometimes a little battery hungry but that's commonplace for pretty much all noise cancelling earbuds. The active noise cancelling (ANC mode) was outstanding as was the transparent mode that can isolate and amplify sounds when your earbuds are in and you want to be able to hear the surrounding areas.

Just better build quality? The TOZOs are admittedly plastic rather than aluminum. But I don't have apps or firmware or any of that noise I have to dick around with either.

Good on you for finding the right model. Our current house had one - not that model, and it was shit. You could barely fit anything in the damn thing. Replaced it with a GE Profile model and have been happy as a clam.

My buddy got a Bosch unit (probably similar to yours) and it is like a whole different world from the POS that was in my house. Very similar to the GE.

The base is essentially just a hard surface in the shape of your mattress, and ours sits in a standard, king-size bed frame. I'd think you could use a standard box springs if you really wanted to provided it's pretty firm. (You'd need at least something more than a frame alone because the mattress itself isn't very rigid.)

EDIT: That said, they do recommend you use theirs...for $500. The main thing is that it should be flat and not springy, so I guess it just depends on how hard their sales folks push you to buy theirs.

I told them I didn't need a base, and they didn't bring it up again. Thought there would be a lot of pushback on that.

Separate note - I'm going to essentially build a bunkie board out of plywood to sit on top of a mattress pad, which will then be on top of two twin box springs (the bed's a king). I think that'll work fine.

Well, I did it. Bought my first Rainman recommended product - the Pitbull Skull Shaver. I've used it twice so far and it does the job I wanted. Instead of needing to lather up and shave my head every 2-3 days, this little bad boy trims it down close enough I can put off shaving. Being able to put it off is a lazy man's dream.

I would add a second, less impressive, recommendation for this if you are lazy like I am and just want to quickly & easily keep your head trimmed up.

Just in general, I feel like electric lawn tools have come into their own in the past 5 years or so. I've gone all in on the Ryobi 40V system with a mower, string trimmer, hedge trimmer, leaf blower, and pole saw. If you've got a huge yard it might be too underpowered, but for my small place in the 'burbs it all works great and sure beats having to deal with gas and oil.

I switched to an electric lawnmower and never looked back. I fucking hated all of the upkeep and bullshit that came with a gas powered lawn mower. I can just put this shit away, pull out the battery, put it in the charger and I'm ready to go next time. Doesn't matter how long in between the mower sits.

I'm partially in on the electric tool ecosystem. I have the green one, greenworks I think. I started with a chainsaw and honestly, I've yet to run into something it couldn't handle. I have 4 acres to boot, so it gets plenty of use. I added the hedge trimmer and string trimmer. I went gas for my leaf blower though. I had borrowed an electric leaf blower from my dad and went through both batteries before getting 1/4 done with the job, so I made the decision to go with a 2 cycle backpack blower.

Greenworks. It's a 21" cutting deck with two 60V batteries. I only put in one at a time and let the other charge, but you can run full with two at once if you like. Usually one will get me through the front yard, and another one will get me through the back yard. Less weight if you only push with one battery in the mower at once. Easier on the old man knees.

You set it on the counter and pour water into it and it makes ice.
There's a basket that it dumps the ice into and when it's full it will quit making ice until you empty it. You can just dump it some kind of container/ice bin in your freezer.

As soon as you remove the basket it starts the process of making the next batch of ice. It will go through this cycle until the water reservoir is to low to make a batch of ice. Then you can turn it off or refill and make more ice.

I bought it for the same reason you need one. An inefficient ice maker with our refrigerator/freezer and we like ice. This thing (the countertop ice maker) makes up the difference. For $100.00 I think it's worth it.

I want one. I'll have to start negotiations with my wife for counter space. Our kitchen isn't particularly large and she closely monitors counter space.

Don't put it in the kitchen.

I purchased a countertop ice maker from Costco here while back. I paid $100.00 for it and it chucks out the ice in fine fashion. Best $100.00 I've spent in a while.

I have something like that at school. Run it in my room during plan and lunch times and I have ice for my Dew. Works very fast. Surprised how quiet it is.

Just in general, I feel like electric lawn tools have come into their own in the past 5 years or so.

I too applaud this, for different reasons.

Picked up a 4-stroke with attachments - leaf blower, roto-tiller, weedeater, brush-hog, edger, and extended chainsaw, . . . as well as a chuck to power start if I'm too lazy to pull start, . . . all for $50.
