Pretty happy with this culinary torch.

I use it mostly to light lump charcoal for my smoker.

I purchased OXO non-stick skillets on the recommendation of America's Test Kitchen. After 8 months I must say I'm really happy. Use them every day and they still perform like new.

I bought a culinary torch a year or so ago. Made some Creme Brule. It was good. It also makes good ass smores if you have kids (or are a kid....at heart).

I’ve yet to do a crème brûlée but s’mores are definitely a perk of the torch.

If you ever need to truly eat your feelings, try a torched marshmallow fluffernutter.

I did this one. I thought if this fucking hillbilly can do it, I can do it. It was pretty good, but it was a pretty big batch. Pretty good though and now I can say I made the shit.

One comes to mind and its recent....

Ive run a Farris ZRT mower for 10 years and was ready to get something for the farm, bought a used Farris, decided to sell and move the home unit to farm and get new for home.

Lawn mowers are almost always a rough ride but this new one a 2200 with a 27 HP EFI Kawasaki is insane comfy.

Farris makes a great machine.

another was the move to a top of the line Bosch Dishwasher....just fucking do it

last is a Larue Ar15 223. simply the best

Concur on the Bosch, should have been my first choice but went with something else that isn't that great.

Did score a great TV not long ago, an LG OLED that's by far the best I've owned - thought I'd never buy anything but Samsung. Coincidentally the dishwasher I did buy is a Samsung...comes a time to jettison brand loyalty I suppose.

I mean to each their own and so forth, but shit I really don't like people enough to live that life... can't even imagine the level of drama and bullshit that several relationships per year for decades on end would bring. That doesn't seem pleasure seeking at all, or maybe looking in all the wrong places for it.

It's not for everyone and you are right, everyone needs to find what makes them happy in life.

Is it wife, kids and family?
Is it a great career?
Is it traveling?
Is it money?
Sports?
Fitness?
Philanthropy?
Religion?
Politics?
Public Service?

I've had 6-7 great relationships in life with women but many tried to change me into something I was not or wouldn't become for them. (Like having kids, changing to Judaism or being a BETA to a strong very successful female ALPHA executive from Silicon Valley). I knew very early on in my life kids weren't for me.

One of the greatest loves of my life in mid 2000's was just horrible timing and I still regret not making changes in my life to be with her. She was wonderful.

The one thing you mention is drama: it's just the OPPOSITE. I have NO drama except one time with the younger crazy girlfriend I talked about in multiple threads here.

I've NEVER been a person who needs other people to bring me joy or happiness or contentment. All my travels around the world helped me a lot to seek out other people and their life stories.

I have the same best friends since 7 years old who we all grew up together in the same neighborhood in NJ. They are all still in the same place we grew up at but I've always been the adventure seeker, risk taker, crazy guy, street smart, jokester, Hedonist, immature/young at heart guy I still am.

I enjoy great restaurants and food, traveling the World, fine cigars, alcohol, gambling, sports, golf, and many other self indulgent things like.......yes hot escorts on occasion.

My goal in life was to live every day to it's fullest and never do anything half way. I think I can say without a doubt I've haven't been cheated in life and have very few regrets.

I want one. I'll have to start negotiations with my wife for counter space. Our kitchen isn't particularly large and she closely monitors counter space.

Depending on what kind of an ice aficionado you are, this one if pretty awesome. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08VDX8SM7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

You might say, "There's no way I'm paying $400 for an ice maker." But my wife loves pebble ice. Before we had a countertop one, she would go nearly every day to buy drinks from Sonic (or one of the thousand drink shops that Utah has). It didn't take long for this thing to pay for itself.

Before this, we had one made by GE. It looks a little nicer, but is really fragile - just constantly breaking down.

Is pebble ice basically crushed ice or is it the larger size like this? It's a good point about shape, though. I need to figure out exactly what I want.

I did get spousal approval, though, which is the key first step.

It's just like that, in your picture. It's actually many different thin layers of ice, so it just crumbles when you chew it. Honestly, it's pretty amazing - the best ice you will ever have. The cool thing about the one I linked is that it has an option to hook it up to a water source, so you don't have to keep filling the tank. We've had it for a couple months (after the GE one finally crapped out for the last time), and it seems pretty well engineered and constructed.

Damn , I'm almost tempted to buy that . I'm in the same boat with my wife, she has to have a fountain drink every god damn day of my life just because the ice is so ****ing wonderful.

She's not even supposed to drive because of seizure meds and COPD and she took our Durango to the convenient store about a month ago and totaled it on the way home because I was too busy at the moment to drop everything I was doing .

Cost me 13K out of pocket to replace the vehicle.

Just pulled the trigger on this model (Sleep Number 360 i8 Smart Bed). Really excited about it. That adjustable air technology was wild at the in-store demo. Felt like I could have fallen asleep right then and there, had there not been a weird rando salesperson there watching me.

Thanks for the recommendations, all!

I scheduled a return for the bed LOL. My wife and I decided we didn't like it for a few reasons.

1 - The app is terrible. I often (80% of the time) have to open and close the app 2-4 times to get it to function and change the sleep number on the mattress.
2 - It feels like you're on a glorified air mattress. Maybe because I'm a bigger guy, as I could see there being a difference for "normal" sized folks.
3 - The motion transference is really bad. When my wife gets up, I feel every second of it.

Thankfully I'm still in the return window. Of course, Sleep Number made a pitch to "fix" some of these problems in lieu of returning. They mentioned sending several difference layers of foam, some for under the air chamber, some for in between the two different chambers, etc. etc. I still opted to return.

We went and looked around and decided to try a Tempur Pedic hybrid model next (partially medium-soft memory foam, partially innerspring coils). I think this will work better for what we're looking for, I hope.

Manual or robot?

I just bought this a couple of months ago, and it has passed the stringent wife test for quality. I've got it set up to run on different floors and it's good at figuring out how to navigate. When it goes back to the charging dock, it empties itself into a little bag that I only change every couple of months. It also mops hard surfaces, but I haven't worked on that yet. The documentation isn't superb so I've been learning one new feature at a time.

It's pretty expensive, but it's nice to vacuum without doing any work: https://us.roborock.com/products/roborock-s7-robot-vacuum-with-auto-empty-dock?gclid=CjwKCAjwy_aUBhACEiwA2IHHQJ3Simhb7Jg38gqfQHX-z39WDX1zTrTjPBGjIMib4Nf95RWeAo_zURoCXowQAvD_BwE

Vacuum wars on YouTube is a good channel to check out. I ended up with a shark IQ based on his rec. I have to clean it out once a week for the dog and wife hair but it really works good to vacuum while we’re at work.

Of course you did....

Because we have one as well and yeah, it's pretty slick. The big difference is the radar guided mapping thing where it makes straight lines in individual rooms instead of bouncing around at random like our old ones did.

I kinda like it being able to unload fur into the docking station at all, but more than anything I like knowing that it's going to hit each corner of each room and I can use my phone to tell it to hit a specific room again and just do those little uniform lines that get everywhere instead of the random patters that always seemed to be pretty similar and left areas uncovered.

We have one of those also - they are EXCELLENT if your dog will tolerate them. Or if you can just corner him. Our black lab is just the sweetest thing in the world but he's also a gigantic pussy. Strong as an ox but wouldn't dream of hurting anyone even though he gets scared of anything that buzzes.

I tried to put him in a grooming harness hooked to a card table to dremel his nails a few months back - dog wouldn't bite or snarl or anything but he pulled so hard that he bent the piece of 1/4 inch steel that held the arm to the table and finally spun it loose.

You turn the vacuum on and try that brush and he'll back into a corner before becoming a quivering mess. We try to go fast because you can't just not groom him - he sheds like crazy. But not all dogs will tolerate it.

They're marketed as a recovery sandal. I'm not sure how effective they are but as someone recovering from a leg injury, they're certainly more comfortable than the slides I've been wearing.

In a bizarre twist of fate, my clothes dryer had an issue and our long-time appliance guy had retired. We found a new appliance guy who fixed it quickly, so he took a look at the ice maker in our fridge that has never worked right. The old appliance guy had told us that it would be a major hassle and cost to fix it, but the new guy said it's easy to just replace it and not that expensive. We did that, and now for the first time in 15 years I have a consistently working ice maker in my fridge. I've also lost a bit of respect for the old appliance guy who cost me years of ice.

I'm pretty happy using a Meater + (https://store-us.meater.com/products/meater-plus)

Its a wireless temp probe for cooking that you control via mobile app. What's cool is how you can program your protein and it adjusts as it cooks to give an estimated time remaining based on temp. For things like steak and chicken its pretty handy or bbq if you're needing a more accurate window on when to drop your sides based on an estimated cook completion time of your main course.

I received it as a gift and not sure I'd spring for it myself as it comes across a bit more pretentious than need be, but it is pretty slick.

I started off with base station, keypad, 1 indoor camera, 1 outdoor camera, & 4 door/window sensors. I actually ended up with 2 indoor cameras because it was a buy one/get one free deal when I bought. I'm probably going to end up with a few more sensors to cover more areas.

I did notice the downstairs camera is struggling with the wifi connection this morning. I've got some things I'll flip around this afternoon that should fix that.

Still have it, but this gem allows me to post almost immediately (which is 99% of what I do nowadays), I can teach students with minimal configuration time, and I can take my phone with me on shore dives in Bonaire (because I won't leave it in the truck). So freaking cool, and the vacuum check is just like on my big rig...

For those who have dabbled in underwater photography, I'm going to have to deal with it's weight, so some pool noodles Ops are in order for the mount, but it's all good...

That's very cool. I use to dive as a teenager and we had the pre-tech version where the case could hold a disposable camera. It actually took decent pictures. I bet what you can pull off with your phone is impressive.

It'd be fun to get back into diving. Since I haven't been in 20+ years, I imagine I'd have to get certified again. However, I don't really have a buddy to do it with which seems problematic. Maybe in another 10 years when my son is old enough to get certified...

I have cheap cigar lighters that can be refilled. The problem you will have with ANY lighter is that the expansion and contraction due to large changes in temperatures will fuck up any lighter, usually causes too much pressure and dead air. I never leave a lighter in my vehicle.

I recommend a $15-20 torch lighter with triple flame. So easy to find online or check out a local tobacco shop. Bleed out the air as needed.

Butane has come a long way. The old "wet" style is awful. The new cannisters with "dry" fluid is pretty much odor and flavorless.

Another key is use the lighter to light the cigar WITHOUT taking any draws. Once fully lit, blow out first to push out any flavor before your first draw.

Now that I have eclipsed 50, kids are in HS/college, I can buy my toys again. Oh man, these new toys make those 60s and 70s hot rods I lusted after & drove as a teen (80s), look like station wagons. Outstanding, my brother had the same housing... And yes, I can't do with this what I can do with the big rig (that I'm going to sell because I find more reasons to not travel with it than I do and I always pick a smaller format for travel), but this will accomplish what I want and, ESPECIALLY, allow me to take a phone with me when shore diving in Bonaire. The wife thinks that's huge, she knows when we go into the water and when we come out, so she worries a lot less. LOL, prolly not for me, but for her sons who are with me LMAO .

As for getting back into it, you were certainly certified for life, so call you local dive shop and talk to them about some refresher training. You'll find the gear has changed, for the better, but once in the water, it's still diving.

And you'll never be asked the silly question of, "where do you want to go on vacation, dear?", my wife knows already. It's on a whiteboard, by quarter of the year, then preference. Never a ship (LMAO), and always has to have a dive spot, after that, she just tells me when to look for tickets.

I don't use them with everything but they work great with standard reheats and such. They work especially well with a square air fryer like Cosori.

I'll throw in a few cool kitchen-related things that I've been high on, especially after research:

Unicorn Magnum Peppermill (http://www.unicornmills.org/magnum.html)

Thermapen One food thermometer (https://www.thermoworks.com/thermapen-one/)

I follow a chef that does great videos on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/c/JKenjiLopezAlt) who recommends kitchen products from time to time based on his personal use. I would highly recommend his videos, as he's fairly scientific in his approach to food prep. He's also entertaining and incredibly knowledgeable.
Kenji is legit. Wish I’d have found him years ago.

Since FMB died I’ll proudly hold the mantle of Thermoworks Stan all my thermometers are Thermoworks. I thought about pulling the trigger on a Thermapen One but it’s thought when my MK4 is still flawless.

I’ll check out that Peppermill. I’m using the OXO one americas test kitchen recommended

Kenji rocks. Love all his stuff. The peppermill is one he recommended in a video. It's incredible. Have seen a positive mention elsewhere of the OXO one, so that's great it's working out for you!

Side Kenji note - I've started doing a variety of non-Asian cooking in a wok, and it kicks ass. Such a versatile piece of equipment.

I got something recently that I have been looking for for quite some time and I love it - an electric razor that actually works.

Because of scarring on my face, I can't use a razor with a blade. For years, I used Norelco rotary razors but because I have really thick hair, getting a close-ish shave lead to razor burn and itchiness.

Things got even worse as my beard turned (mostly) grey. My thick hair turned into wires, I think. Several years ago, I switched to a foil razor that I could use in the shower with shaving gel (Braun S5). This helped a lot but it struggled if I had more than a day's growth and really struggled on my neck.

I did some research and found the Braun Series 9 is considered the best for thick hair but I wasn't sure the almost $300 price tag was worth it. I found there was a stripped down (accessory-wise) version (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B092RF4WPX?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) for $200 so decided to pull the trigger.

I was skeptical but - holy crap! - this thing really works. What used to take 6-7 passes with the S5 is pretty much gone in one, even on a couple of days of growth. It also has extra long battery life. I am really impressed with this thing and it was well worth the money.

Sorry about the life story. I just wanted to explain the years of frustration as for why I like this so much. And before someone chimes in with "just grow a beard", here's why - 1. I have almost no gray hair on my head but my beard is probably 85% gray so I look a lot older with it grown out. 2. Even though the hair is thick, it's patchy enough that it doesn't look good. 3. I hate the feeling of longer hair around my nose and on my neck. 4. Unless I want to be a neckbeard, I still have to shave the part of my neck that gives me the most trouble.

I'm compelled to circle back on this.

Several weeks ago I was smoking a brisket and using this Meater+

Towards the end of the cook, I carelessly, lets call it too many beers in, tried to remove the probe with my bare hand. Of course I burnt the shit out of myself and flung the Meater+ which landed on the grate, hanging down above the coals like a Chad in the 2000 election.

Since it was towards the end of the cook and temps were dwindling, I didn't figure much damage could be done and as soon as the fire was completely out, I'd retrieve it.

Go out the next day and the Meater+ is nowhere to be found. I combed through the spent coals and nothing, nada.

Assuming it was kaput and mostly disintegrated, I continued to cook on the Egg at least a half dozen times. Adding new fuel and easily reaching +700F temps.

Fast forward to this afternoon as I'm doing a total tear down cleanse and lo and behold. There she is, beneath the remains.

Gave her a Dawn dish soap soak, updated the firmare and BAM! back in business.

Welcome back ol girl. Next time you go in the fire I'm reaching in like Krull to get you, even though I know I don't need to, your loyalty and resiliency will not go unnoticed.

I don’t know if there was a packaging error at the plant or what, but I went into a local discount and purchased a Braun for $22(whatever model was on the box, long since thrown away.

Got it home, unpacked it and was surprised by how well it worked.

Turned out to be a Braun 9. Helluva shaver. Best I’ve owned.

Seems great if you use it enough. I love my brats, but it don't have enough storage space in my kitchen cabinets nor counter top to store it. It would end up in my basement amongst other gadgets that I forget about. I'd prolly use the stove and a skillet or grill them.

The basement is where my George Foreman grill is. I love it, but don't make the time to use it.

Damn, you are making me want brats:)

Also, $80 seems a bit steep.

I haven't got these yet for the air fryer, which I love. They seem to fit their need though.

The air fryer has found a place on the counter and use it a bunch.

I consider it an convection oven on steroids' and only heats 1 cf, vs the regular oven at 3 cf. Anyone on the fence, like I was, should go ahead and bite the bullet. If you don't like it, send it back.

It will be like the microwave oven. You find out you can do a lot with it:)

I just got it, so maybe this review is premature, but I got this vacuum this week and so far it's everything I ever wanted in a stair vacuum.

My challenge is that I have four flights of stairs in my house, and my robot vacuum cleaner doesn't do stairs. I have an older portable (over the shoulder) vacuum, but it's heavy and you're always having to wrestle the cord and the shoulder strap.

So I did a little research and bought this guy:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DFJ122K?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

It weighs only 4.5 pounds and it's cordless, with a rechargable battery. The design is really nice because you can telescope it for floor use, shorten it to a convenient length for working your way up stairs, and even turn it into a hand-vac for couches and chairs. The little part on the floor is conveniently exactly the width of a stair step and very flexible, and it's easy to empty afterwards. The battery life isn't long, but it's long enough since I'm using this solely for stairs and not for big stretches of open floor prairie.

All that for under $100? I should have done this long ago.

The sound bar is only 21" wide. The sub fits behind the monitor, which rocks my desk!

Both were highly recommended. I much agree.

I might be late to the party, but it changed my computer viewing style.

Oh yea, monitor $125 from Walmart, sound via Amazon $80.

This coming from a dude that watched the first Batman VHS movie in '89 on a 19" CGA computer monitor with 4 other dudes in the apt bedroom in Germany:) That was cutting edge then.

When you go to the Chicago History Museum and the Amtek CGA monitor currently on your desk is displayed …

Now that I've dove them a few times in various environments and different configurations I can give these puppies 20 thumbs up... I bought this Apeks MTX-RC "DIR Hogarthian" setup from a dealer in Italy and man is it awesome. It was flawless under the ice super bowl weekend in February, and equally perfect in the warm waters in Cozumel the week after the super bowl, and I was able to get them into the side mount configuration two weeks ago in Roatan. Wow, just WOW. You buy extreme cold water regulators thinking you're going to sacrifice ease of breathing and these puppies are, hands-down, the best breathing regulators I've ever had. And they came along at the right price to boot!!!

My new Swisstech rolling 4 wheel carry on luggage has been a Godsend. Bought it at Walmart in Rockford IL a few months back while on a business trip.

Computer cooling pad that costs $12 on Amazon and has stopped my computer fan from going nuts on conference calls.

My KC Trivia Game we used at our Phoenix meetup with host master JohnnyHammersticks.

125 cigars including ones I have never smoked like the OZGENER FAMILY CIGARS BOSPHORUS B-55, Padron 1926 Series #9, Montecristo 1935 Anniversary.

Living room two door cabinet to hold my two electric humidors on top and accessories inside.

TV tray. $25 on Amazon.

New prescription eyeglasses to replace my very old ones.

I've been on a buying rampage lately..

Bought these a while back after a particularly loud concert where it was like my ears couldn't even process the music (and I've had tinnitus forever)... I've used them a few times since and they tone it down just enough without taking away from the music.

I bought prescription glasses optimized for using with my computer monitor. Not driving glasses, not reading glasses, but in between.

Yes, it sucks to have another pair of glasses but I can make the font smaller which makes it totally worth it.

Travel I took my Family, wife and 4 grown kids to Ireland and London for 2 weeks. Best thing I've purchased. I hit the sweet spot before they have families started and when I could never make it happen.
Best time ever.

I'm interested in this. Is it the "Kansas City - Sports Trivia Game" I see on amazon or something else?
