He's become an outstanding blocker, but he can catch the ball. He went to Nevada as a WR and was moved to TE. At Nevada he actually caught the ball pretty well, with over 500 yards receiving as a senior. NFL.com didn't even think he'd be a very good blocker in the pros, but thought he'd be an outstanding seam-attacking, vertical threat TE/H-back in their scouting report of him. He's got the goods if he's used that way. The very fact that he has become a devastating run blocker is the bonus. I've been mocking him into my offseason plans as well because the potential is there. A few years ago I thought the same thing of Martellus Bennett and he's turned out to be a rather good feature TE. I wouldn't count the chickens before they hatch.

Bennett had more receiving yards his rookie season than Green has his whole career.
His college days are long behind him. He started 9 games last season for the Broncos and managed to only be targeted 6 times for 74 yards receiving and a 1 yard TD pass from Osweiler. With all of that ability to be a vertical threat at TE you would think he would have been drafted higher than the 7th round and would be able to manage more than 74 yards receiving in 13 games with Peyton Manning. Might as well just line up a 6th lineman and make him eligible to receive. |

If he was a reliable target wouldn't you think he would manage to have more receiving production than a guy who didn't start a single game?

So all we need is one of the greatest TE's of all time to line up opposite of Green and for Alex to go deep?

Ya. I thought the same thing when you tried comparing the success of that offense to this one.
I mean... **** the HoF OL. **** the HoF TE. **** the fact that the offensive system is completely different. They had a blocking TE and it was a good offense!! |
