No one gives a shit about the Chargers in Los Angeles, period. "Winning" isn't going to make a damn bit of difference because most of the people who live here don't even care about the NFL and those that do care about their hometown team or the Rams, who still had a massive following.

The Chargers couldn't "excite" their fans in a city in which they spent more than 55 years, even when they had three future HoFers in Rivers, LT and Gates. Maybe they'll garner some fans if they have a prolonged run of excellence but one winning season isn't going to win over people who didn't give a crap about them in the past.

The Rams sold out from their first season at the Coliseum to their last in 1980, so yes, LA can be a great football town. Many in the city embraced the Raiders but the business leaders didn't want them back due to the violence associated with their last 5 years in LA.

USC and UCLA are nearly always sold out and the Rams broke a preseason attendance record back in August 2016. But I seriously doubt the Chargers can build a fan base and if they do, it'll take at least a decade or more.

Only surprising if you didn’t pay attention to the Chargers all season.

Lynn was a shitty head coach. And it's not even his gameday decisions that made him shitty.

The guy couldn't prepare his team. He is reportedly a very good leader and delegator, but the Chargers just never got creative or tried anything new. Offensively or defensively. That might be a staff issue, but if it's a coaching staff issue, then you have to look to the top at the guy who won't change when the wins aren't occurring.

Maybe he'll be more flexible if he gets another job somewhere else. But for now, I'd be optimistic about the team improving if I were a Chargers fan. Or at the very least excited.

If EB doesn’t get a HC position, I truly think foot on the gas all of next year.

Thanks for the in-depth answer. I was curious, as when I lived in the LA area the Chargers were still in SD, and there was no NFL team in LA, so I had no real way to judge.

It's too bad though, because I really believe that Herbert and LAC will be a more exciting and possibly a more successful franchise than the Rams in just a couple seasons. If that happens, they'd deserve the support.
