Should the NFL change the rules for pass interference on underthrown passes?
I've seen a lot of folks talking about this, including Mitchell Schwartz. The thought is that it rewards the QB for making a bad throw and it's impossible for DB's to defend when the WR purposefully uses it to get the call.
What do you think?

that sounds good, but you would have a lot more grabbing on guys beat deep... The NFL wants that action, not a wide open guy being tackled on a 50 yard bomb that only gets 15 yards. It would make the game ugly. You can also make contact after 5 yards in college as well so they can be more aggressive on deep routes and it's harder to be beat deep, so the 15 yard instead of spot foul isn't as noticeable.

I think they should add some variance into the call; after all, who is to say that the receiver is going to actually catch the ball? Make the call and roll a die; 1 to 3 is a catch, 4 to 6 is incomplete.
Actually, it's too much of a judgement call; I can recall plenty of times a certain nameless QB would throw balls that no one could catch and DPI was a result. If the ball is that badly underthrown, perhaps treat it like a tipped ball and no DPI. Besides, a good DB will hold a WR when he's beat and get the 5 yard holding call anyways if he can. |

I really don't know why teams with bad offenses don't just chuck it deep all the time and just pray for PI

They have uncatchable they can use but they just never use it. That is one thing that needs to be more utilized. |
