Chiefs TE Travis Kelce adds another incredible accomplishment to resume

On behalf of Chiefs' Kingdom and all of KC: "We love you Travador!"

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce adds another incredible accomplishment to resume

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is already one of the most decorated players to ever play the position, and he keeps adding to his Hall of Fame resume.

With a 27-yard catch in Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Kelce became just the fourth tight end in NFL history to top the 11,000 yard receiving mark, while also becoming the fastest player to ever reach that milestone at the position.

Tony Gonzalez (15,127), Jason Witten (13,036) and Antonio Gates (11,841) are the only three tight ends ahead of him for yardage on the all-time list.

It is possible — though unlikely — that he could pass Gates at some point this season, but with only six games to play after Sunday that would be a tall task.

It took Kelce just 154 games to reach the 11,000-yard mark.

Gonzalez was the previous fastest to reach the mark, doing so in 191 games.

Kelce just turned 34 earlier this season and might not have enough seasons to catch Gonzalez for the all-time yardage mark among tight ends, but he is also not showing any signs of slowing down.

His 2022 season was the second-best of his career with 1,338 yards. He entered Sunday's game on pace for 1,210 yards if he played a full 17-game schedule.

Kelce has always been a favorite target of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but given how little production the team is getting from their wide receivers Kelce is taking on an even bigger role within the offense.

Not happening. If we win the SB this year, I'd not be surprised if he retires. He's got a nice beautiful life making a ton on money post football, waiting for him.

I'd be surprised if he retired after back-to-back Super Bowls. He'd be tempted to go for three consecutive.

If they don't win the SB, I can see him retiring with his new opportunities in show business and nothing left to prove.

I would think that 1,000 career receptions would maybe be something he's chasing. After he hits that, 100 career TDs could be a possibility.

Nobody will ever say "Hey, I'm in this for the numbers" but when you start to have nice round numbers like that in front of you, I can see being awfully excited at the opportunity to get there.

Cardinals fans just watched Adam Wainwright spend an entire season getting his teeth kicked in so he could pick up the 5 wins necessary to get to 200. And nobody's ever thought he was any sort of stat-chaser.

But that's historic stuff. Those are short lists and these are proud people. I could see him sticking around to get to those numbers.

What does this mean? You believe he will or won't retire?

If you take those averages back to a make 17 games season, his postseason numbers are:

125 catches
1462 yards
15 touchdowns

The single season receiving record for a TE is 1,416 (Kelce 2020)
The single season receptions record for a TE is 116 (Ertz 2018)
The single season touchdown record for a TE is 18 (Gronk 2011)

Kelce’s postseason numbers would be the greatest regular season by a tight end ever.
He has a legit chance of breaking Jerry Rice's postseason TD record. Probably not this year, but I can see him doing it next year.
