Family sues LAPD for $120 Million, after their kid dies from "suicide by cop"

(obligatory respect for the dead note) It is sad that someone, even someone responsible for their own demise dies, its a tragedy. (/obligatory respect for the dead note)

Abdul Arian's Family Files $120 Million Lawsuit Against LAPD For Shooting Death Of Son

I know the family is sad, I know they may be out of their mind, but still, even given their kid got shot by the cops, I can't believe they filed this lawsuit. This is crazy.

Mentally disturbed (I assume, you have to be nuts or suicidal to do this) kid is being asked by the cops to pull over for reckless driving. He refuses, and runs, big classic police chase starts. Then, the kid calls 911 and tells the 911 operator he's got a gun. 911 operator pleads with him to surrender because he doesn't want him to get hurt. Stupid kid says he's not scared, the police who are chasing him will get hurt. This information is probably relayed to the cops chasing him.

Quote:
"I have a gun," was one of the statements police quoted the man as saying.

"'I've been arrested before for possession of destructive devices, I'm not afraid of cops," he said.

"If they pull their guns, I'm gonna have to pull my gun out on them," he was also quoted as saying.
(he does not have a gun) He stops on the freeway, almost a dozen cops stop, guns drawn. Does the kid get out and get on the ground to surrender? Nope, in the dead of night, where you can't really see clearly, the kid starts running away, but several times he turns towards the cops and points something at them (keep in mind he already told 911 he had a gun). It almost looks like a shooting stance while retreating. (as it turns out, he's probably pointing a cell phone at them) Cops obviously think he's got a gun and open fire, and he goes down.

Days later, the family sues the city of Los Angeles.... for $120 Million Dollars.

That clip starts to get serious after the 2 minute mark.

(note: someone is getting shot in that clip. (but the clip ends right before he goes down) Don't click if it upsets you. However, this isn't "Faces of death", there's no visible blood, no gore, and people who love seeing gore would be sorely disappointed, this is a very far, overhead, fuzzy shot from a helicopter. The reason why its relevant at all is to clinically show, without much visible violence, why the cops obviously would have to shoot this idiot)
