Marty Schottenheimer documentary
Some of you may recall the film that my co-producer and I made for Marty Schottenheimer a few months back. We made a trip this past summer out to North Carolina to meet with he and Pat and it was a dream come true growing up as Chiefs in that era to have a positive impact on his life via this film as he battles Alzheimer's. We had around 16 of Marty's former players contribute to this and we are down to our last 10 or so DVD's and since the proceeds go to Alzheimer's research I wanted to throw it out on here one last time.
Here's the film's trailer:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajmrR8gMAWw and ways to order (including DVD and digital copy)http://www.martyfilmkc.com/ways-to-watch.html Here are a few pics of us interacting with Marty and showing him the film at his home (he cried throughout, very touching) |

This is really neat.
Alzheimer's sucks. I sure hope they find a cure soon. |

If I get the diagnosis, I'll push on as best I can until it seems that I'm close to being unable to continue on my own. Then I'm going to cash in my chips and go home. I may not be able to prevent the end, but at least I can go out on my own terms. |

Yes, that's the risk I run by waiting. Wait too long, and I won't be able to do anything about it. I'll be keeping a pretty close check on myself once I get the diagnosis. The good thing (if there is a good thing) about the disease is that it's a slow slide rather than an overnight change. So I should have time to wrap up my affairs even after I know that I have it. |

If I get to that point, I told her she has my full permission to "accidentally" give me too many pills one day. |

Plus, there is the matter of finances. I've worked hard my whole life to build up something to leave my family. Dying from any terminal illness is expensive, but Alzheimer's care can go on for years and leave your heirs with nothing. Why would I want to pay someone to come dress me, spoon food into my mouth, and wipe my butt when I'm not even aware of what is going on? Much better to leave on my own terms and be able to know that my family will have the money to build their own lives. |
