WalterFootball is all over the 2009 Draft...

http://www.walterfootball.com/mattfivedefense.php

Matt McGuire's 2009 NFL Draft Prospects
Top 5 By Position - Defense

These rankings do not reflect where these players will go in the draft or how I think they will fall in the draft. It is just how good I think these players are on my personal draft board.

Defensive Ends

1. Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech
Excellent height and speed to be the prototypical 4-3 edge rusher in the mold of Simeon Rice.

2. Greg Hardy, Ole Miss
In the mold of a Jarvis Moss, but he can't have a disappointing junior season.

3. Tyson Jackson, LSU
Needs to live up to his physical potential, and he has all the tools to dominate.

4. George Selvie, South Florida
Despite being No. 4 on my list of ends, Selvie is my No. 1 DE/OLB for 3-4 defenses.

5. Frank Middleton, Indiana
Led the country in sacks with 16.

Defensive Tackles

1. Jeff Owens, Georgia
Owens' game is severely underrated right now, but I'm confident the spotlight will shine on him this season.

2. Peria Jerry, Ole Miss
A player who has much underrated athletic ability for the position.

3. Vince Oghobaase, Duke
Young star whom I think will have a huge junior year. Great size at 6-6, 315.

4. DeMarcus Granger, Oklahoma
Has character concerns after getting caught shoplifting the week before the Fiesta Bowl.

5. Sen'Derrick Marks, Auburn
Plays end for Auburn, but will kick inside in the NFL at three technique.

Inside Linebackers

1. Rey Maualuga, USC
Extremely physical and rangy linebacker who is a terrific blitzer; his intensity will remind you of Ray Lewis.

2. James Laurinaitis, Ohio State
Highly productive, but isn't the physical specimen that Maualuga is.

3. Brandon Spikes, Florida
Great in run support, but seems to struggle when dropping into zone.

4. Darry Beckwith, LSU
Tenacious player from sideline to sideline.

5. Micah Johnson, Kentucky
Top 10 recruit out of high school has a tremendous upside. He's 6-2, 255, and runs a 4.6. He's always around the football.

Outside Linebackers

1. Brian Cushing, USC
Very tough and physical linebacker who can play in any scheme.

2. Davie Philistin, Maryland
Will be a Tampa-2 weakside linebacker and has outstanding speed for the position.

3. Marcus Freeman, OhioState
Lacks speed and fluid hips - is more of a strongside linebacker in the NFL from what I have gathered on tape.

4. Gerald McRath, Southern Miss
Strictly a strongside linebacker in the 4-3.

5. Anthony Heygood, Purdue
Solid weakside linebacker, but doesn't have the outstanding speed you want.

Cornerbacks

1. Michael Jenkins, Ohio State
Needs to rebound from horrible performance in the National Championship.

2. Vontae Davis, Illinois
Made my jaw drop as he ran down USC RB Joe McKnight with ease in the Rose Bowl.

3. Trevard Lindley, Kentucky
Best cover corner in the SEC and has elite ball skills. If he gets stronger and plays more physical, he's a top 10 pick.

4. Victor "Macho" Harris, Virginia Tech
While everyone was loving Brandon Flowers leading up to the draft because he was a very physical player, Harris is a better pro prospect.

5. Jairus Byrd, Oregon
A ballhawk at corner (7 INTs), but make no mistake about it because Byrd is a solid tackler as well. Needs to refine zone awareness.

Safeties

1. Myron Rolle, Florida State
Great athleticism and instincts should propel Rolle as the top safety in the country.

2. William Moore, Missouri
Outstanding production and leadership, but speed is on the short side. Reminds me of John Lynch.

3. Taylor Mays, USC
Great measureables (6-3, 225, 4.4) but he doesn't always play up to them. Let's see if he makes the next step in his junior year. I think he does.

4. Rashad Johnson, Alabama
Will represent the 2008 Matt McGuire All-Underrated team at safety.

5. Derek Pegues, Mississippi State
Play-maker who performs on an extremely consistent basis. Pegues' best fit is at free safety.

Matt McGuire's 2009 NFL Draft Prospects
Top 5 By Position - Offense

These rankings do not reflect where these players will go in the draft or how I think they will fall in the draft. It is just how good I think these players are on my personal draft board.

Quarterbacks

1. Cullen Harper, Clemson
Reminds me of Matt Ryan last year in terms of how underrated he was going into the season. Nice accuracy, arm strength and consistency in his game.

2. Sam Bradford, Oklahoma
Has a somewhat quirky release, but for a redshirt freshman last season, he was amazing. Bradford is the most accurate quarterback in the country.

3. Curtis Painter, Purdue
Puts more zip on the ball than you would think; he needs to be more steady in his technique. Painter must be more of a leader.

4. Hunter Cantwell, Louisville
Outstanding size and arm strength, but a lack of game experience could hurt his chances of being a first-round pick.

5. Todd Boeckman, Ohio State
Great arm, but a very immature pocket presence with horrible footwork. This can be improved drastically this offseason. What could hurt Boeckman's draft stock is that he will be a 25-year-old rookie.

Running Backs

1. Knowshon Moreno, Georgia
It's like someone made a clone of Cadillac Williams, but put less wear on his tires. Very few weaknesses in his game. Great receiver out of the backfield.

2. Chris "Beanie" Wells, Ohio State
Amazing speed for a guy who is 6-1, 230 pounds. He does have a second burst unlike most bigger backs. Scary potential.

3. Arian Foster, Tennessee
A tough and durable back who doesn't get the headlines he should.

4. LeSean McCoy, Pittsburgh
Fast running back who needs to continue to make strides nexts season.

5. C.J. Spiller, Clemson
Reminds me of Felix Jones because he is a scat back with tremendous game speed.

Wide Receivers

1. Michael Crabtree
Needs to improve balance and route running, but has a Larry Fitzgerald-type skill set.

2. Percy Harvin, Florida
Harvin answered my questions last year showing reliable hands, routes and underrated blocking. Elite speed in every sense of the word.

3. Aaron Kelly, Clemson
Huge possession receiver who has solid ball skills - therefore a great red-zone target.

4. Jeremy Maclin, Missouri
Is a very fast player, but I don't see the all-around receiving skills just yet.

5. Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland
Has an extremely high upside, but just reminds me too much of Troy Williamson. DHB must be more consistent and productive next season, and I think it'll happen.

Tight Ends

1. Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State
Light years away the best tight end in the college game because of his size, speed and hands.

2. Chase Coffman, Missouri
Typical jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none tight end prospect.

3. Jaison Williams, Oregon
At 6-4, 240, Williams will ultimately find himself as a tight end in the NFL. Questions arise about his hands, and he must answer those next season.

4. Darius Hill, Ball State
Great Y.A.C. upside in the NFL.

5. Cornelius Ingram, Florida
Isn't living up to his physical abilities yet in Florida.

Offensive Tackles

1. Michael Oher, Ole Miss
Owning elite size and athleticism, Oher is the best left tackle prospect since Orlando Pace.

2. Eugene Monroe, Virginia
Isn't quite the athlete that D'Brickashaw Ferguson was, but he can hold his own in the footwork department.

3. Ciron Black, LSU
A ton of starting experience for such a young player. Shut down Vernon Gholston in the National Championship.

4. Alex Boone, Ohio State
With great size and solid footwork, he's a more athletic Jeremy Trueblood.

5. Dace Richardson, Iowa
Year in, year out Richardson is one of the most underrated offensive linemen in the country. Technically dominates opponents with great athleticism for the position.

Guards

1. Duke Robinson
I consider him to be a better guard prospect than Branden Albert. Powerful run blocker, but is nimble in pass protection.

2. Jeremy Perry, Oregon State
A great technician who plays with a nasty demeanor.

3. Herman Johnson, LSU
Pretty mobile for a guy who is 6-5, 355.

4. Matt Slauson, Nebraska
Very powerful guard who needs to improve awareness in picking up stunts and blitzes.

5. Anthony Parker, Tennessee
Very versatile player who displays a great understanding of the game; another well-coached lineman out of Tennessee.

Centers

1. Alex Mack, California
Possibly the best center prospect in the past decade.

2. Jonathan Luigs, Arkansas
Not very athletic.

3. Antoine Caldwell, Alabama
Bulk and power is not where you want it to be.

4. Eric Wood, Louisville
A very similar prospect to Jason Spitz.

5. Brett Helms, LSU
Isn't the great athlete you want him to be, but he gets the job done week in week out. Can also play guard.

I find myself intrigued by C Alex Mack, G Duke Robinson, CB Vontae Davis, and all the DEs.

I don't think it's any secret that DE should be the primary need of this team in a year.

It is interesting that they didn't put Andre Smith on their list of offensive tackles.

Yeah, WTF.

Also, I wouldn't put Tebow at #1, but not to have him on the list is disconcerting.

Andre Smith isn't a senior so they may not be convinced he's coming out....

Personally I think Taylor Mays is the #1 safety for pro potential...

Also for anyone that doesn't know, Vontae Davis is Vernon Davis brother.

Anyone who thinks Tim Tebow is Eric Crouch is reeruned. They're not similar at all. Size, skill-set, leadership, heart - completely different. Just looking at the numbers tells the story:

Crouch's Heisman year (senior):
1510yds passing, 7TDs, 10ints, 134.31 efficiency rating, 55.6% completion%
1115yds rushing, 18TDs

Tebow's Heisman year (sophomore):
3286yds passing, 32TDs, 6ints, 172.47 efficiency rating, 66.9% completion%
895yds rushing, 23TDs

That's fine, for god sakes he was a true sophomore. I've said for some time now I think this year will tell the story on his pro potential. There are those who think he'll have problems and others who think he'll be a great success (Jerry Jones, for one). This season will place a greater focus on his passing ability since he wont be running near as much. He has the size, arm strength, smarts and competitiveness - mechanics can be corrected and I'm sure the coaches are working with him on that.

The fact that he's not on the list hurts their credibility too me. I'm not saying the guy is going to be a gangbuster star in the NFL but to not have a guy with his stats on the radar at all in a weak year is stoopid. Let me clarify the stats part. He plays against some of the best teams in the country week in and week out. His stats aren't inflated against sub par competition.

Yeah but can he run the option?
You can't compare the two. If Crouch would have been smart he should of gone as a RB. Hell he probably would of stuck around St. Louis as a return guy alone.
