How many starting QB's has KC had since the Chiefs won a playoff game?

I don't know what makes me ask these masochistic questions. In this case a friend of mine asked me and I researched it. I thought it was worth sharing here. It took me a bit of time to compile this list. The answer is 13. Somehow that seems like an appropriate number considering all the bad luck we've had since our last playoff win.

As of this coming Sunday, Chiefs will have played 296 consecutive games without a playoff victory, the last one being January 16, 1994. This list contains starters from January 23, 1994 on.

The list below is in chronological order of the player's first start. Players that subbed in the middle of a game don't count (i.e. no Todd Collins), this is a list of players that actually started a game.

Dave Krieg - 1 game (1993 playoffs, subbed for an injured Montana)

Joe Montana - 15 games, all in the 1994 season. Could never stay healthy with KC. But Joe was our QB when we won our last playoff game, so it's really hard not to like the guy.

Steve Bono - 32 games. Seeing that number makes me kind of sad, really. I can't remember anyone in KC ever really liking Bono or thinking he was the long term answer. He was always viewed by everyone I knew as a means to an end, a "game manager" type (if ever there was a greater insult to a QB). No wonder we were such fans of the Chiefs defense in the 1990s.

Rich Gannon - 19 games. One wonders what would have been different in KC if we treated him right. If only Marty had benched Steve Bono earlier during the infamous "he who shall not be named" game.

Elvis Grbac - 48 games. I warmed up to this guy towards the end, but maybe I was delusional. My recollection of Elvis was that he didn't totally suck, but that's not saying much.

Warren Moon - 1 game (week 12, 2000). Warren was really on borrowed time when he was with the Chiefs. This was his only start.

Trent Green - 90 games (including a streak of 82 consecutive starts). Trent was a great QB for a while. He had a rough start, but I really liked him. Trent is probably the closest thing we have had to a "franchise QB" other than Montana in the past 20 years. For five seasons from 2001-2005 we had one of the best offenses in the league. Damn shame the defense sucked during most of those years.

Damon Huard - 21 games. To be honest, it kind of hurts seeing this. Damon was a surprisingly good replacement when Trent went down, but I never expected him to be the long term answer. Still, starting 21 games. Wow.

Brodie Croyle - 10 games. Poor guy never won a game in his career. I had high hopes for Brodie, but he could never stay healthy. As if you didn't already know, I'd like to direct your attention to the fact that Brodie Croyle is the only Chief on this list that we drafted.

Tyler Thigpen - 11 games. I'm almost in disbelief at this. He really started 11 games as a Chief.

Matt Cassel - 40 games. I'm not exactly sold on Matt, but I have to admit that I'm surprised he has actually started 40 games as a Chief. I had to check my math on this one. One last note here, if you aren't sure whether a QB is any good after 40 starts, maybe you are in denial.

Tyler Palko - 4 games. Say no more. Moving on...

Kyle Orton - 3 games (including the game this upcoming weekend). Kyle is a damn sight better than Palko, and I dare say the equal if not better than Cassel. A big part of me hopes we find a true "QBOTF" and that this number doesn't go much higher than 3 starts as a Chief.

Hope that you found this as interesting as I did.
