Redskins strip Zorn of offensive play-calling duties

Posted: October 18th, 2009 | Jason La Canfora
Jim Zorn met with Redskins vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato following Sunday’s 14-6 loss to the Chiefs, and management decided that the coach would no longer handle offensive play-calling duties, according to a team source.
A final decision on who will handle that role hasn’t been made. However, it’s widely expected that Sherman Lewis, an offensive consultant hired just two weeks ago, will take over because he’s the only other staff member who has called plays and is well versed in the West Coast offense.
Zorn remains the Redskins’ coach — at least for now — and also had been serving as, in essence, the team’s QBs coach, offensive coordinator and play-caller.
