Final thoughts on preseason

This team just looks better. Just all around, even our suck is better than our suck in years past. You can tell we have a staff of coaches that know wtf they are doing. It's refreshing as we haven't seen that since the DV days when you get to it.

Obviously we haven't played a meaningful down yet and you can tell that there is room to improve but I think everyone is getting the sense that we are doing just that, improving. Worst to first? Most likely not but in this division it may not be unreachable.

Offense:
Running game looks rather weak but we were without JC against SF and went against the Steelers the next game. 2 very, very good defenses. So is our running game that bad or were we facing good defenses? Probably some of both.

Smith is going to be the proverbial game manager and if his preseason is any indication of what is to come that can suffice for now. His throws are accurate and receivers aren't jumping, reaching, diving, or sliding to catch passes ala Cassel. Don't turn it over, control the clock, rest the defense. That is a winnable recipe even if it is a boring one.

Tyler Bray......kid is going to be good in 2-3 years. If he pays attention to who he is learning from, we are going to have a bad ass QB.

Defense:
Its on! This defense is getting after it and though it may be a feast or famine defense, it's obvious that the days of Romeo's read-react defense is gone. This is attack, attack and attack some more. I think Poe and TJax are going to take big steps in the right direction this year.

Special Teams:
What can you say? They looked awesome all preseason long.

I see shades of Marty ball coming with a ball control offense, relentless defense and strong special teams. We just replace the power running with dinking and dunking in the passing game.

Our running game certainly looks improved.

To me, the whole preseason was a dumpster fire outside one TD drive and some decent defense (which was awful against the Steelers), so whatever. Homer on.

I'd take Marty Ball after the crap we've been seeing for awhile.

Bray reminds me of a young Favre. Trusts his arm a little too much. Occasionally makes a dumb decision. But, that's what young people do. This kid has a chance to be special.

Yes, holding the Steelers to a field goal.

That's... that's a terrible defense.

Awww, cry some more because we didn't put 50 pts up against 2 of the best defenses in the league.

This was a very positive offseason.

The scrubs got a ton better as it went on, and the starters outplayed the Saints and the Steelers, with only the 49ers getting the better of them, and honestly that was as much a draw as anything.

I am trying to be cautious here. This team looks really good, but its holes at receiver and lack of depth in the secondary has me very concerned.

If we had a batch of reliable hands at receiver, I'd say 11 wins is not that far off.

Our receiver batch is so shaky, however, that if we get past 7 wins, I'll be surprised.

The only thing I got out of this preseason, is that now I kind of hope a golf cart carrying AS and CD flips over and breaks their throwing arms. This would get Bray onto the field and finally we have our young quarterback that the Chiefs will be committed to developing. But in the mean time I'm ok with Marty-ball style football if it means getting to the playoffs quickly.

We gave up like 200 yards, and they were within a bobble of putting up 17 points pretty easily.

That was not an impressive defensive performance, homer. Wide open receivers EVERYWHERE.

The defense and special teams were a dumpster fire?

With each successive post, you prove that you know little to nothing about NFL football.
