Sorry, prior to the pick I hadn't even read that you were targeting him. I do feel kinda feel like an ass now but at the same time, a bit validated that you share my opinion of Bennett. I figure those B-Ball tight ends have done alright for themselves in the league.
The only reason I was wary of drafting of him was this "lack of maturity" aspect I heard about but personally I couldn't recall an incident that would have red-flagged him. |

With Bernard Berrian to go along with Sidney Rice, Adrian Peterson and the best left O-line in football the Vikings are a QB and a TE away from being a powerhouse offense not seen in Minnesota since Culpepper to Moss. With no real value with the QB's the pick comes down to John Carlson and Mario Manningham. While Carlson may never be up to the level of Tony G./ Antonio Gates he will be a solid starter for years. Easily becomes the most talented Tight End on the team and gives Tarvaris jackson the safety blanket that he needs.

Have you been satisfied with Jackson as Vikings QB? I simply believe he's horrendous. I think Chad Henne is fairly NFL ready and he honestly could start on opening day, would have been fair value where you're picking. With teams keying in on Peterson and a very good OL to protect him, not to mention the acquisition of Berrian to add to Rice... I would have gone Henne.
But Carlson should help out whoever's quarterbacking, nonetheless, even though I would have gone Cottam if I would have picked a TE. Which, even if I didn't like any QB, I wouldn't. I probably would have gone strong safety, and picked ASU's Josh Barrett, who has the potential to become a beast... |

As much as we're knocking out on this we could probably do more than 3 rounds.

I'm down for that. Full seven rounds.
I'd love to watch every team's full draft come into fruition. Plus I want to see how bad ct screws over the Donks. ![]() |

Well, **** you guys, I'm bored.
Five best players still on the board: 1. MLB Curtis Lofton (Oklahoma) 2. DE/OLB Shawn Crable (Michigan) 3. OLB Eric Henderson (Tennessee) 4. QB Chad Henne (Michigan) 5. WR Early Doucet (LSU) Forgot about Tony Hills, who factors in somewhere in there. Whatever. Last edited by Direckshun; 03-11-2008 at 10:31 PM.. |

What's the story with Early Doucet? I don't follow a ton of LSU football, but it seems that everytime I turned on an LSU game, the announcers were talking about what a threat he was. Is he that good, or did he make a name for himself lining up next to Bowe and Craig Davis?

He's safe, he's consistent, but at the same time I'm not sure he's more than a 3 he doesn't have great size or speed. His route running is iffy and he has injury concerns...Biggest thing with him is he doesn't do special teams and that can hurt value with so many guys similar. |

I think a lot of it has been Bowe and Davis, but Doucet didn't exactly light it up too much after his injury in what was supposed to be his coming out year this year. He missed nearly five games due to injury and was a shell of himself when he returned -- I think he returned too soon, perhaps he's supercompetitive or perhaps he wanted to remain a potential 1st rounder.
Doucet is not the most impressive guy size-wise, and he's not the most impressive guy speed-wise, but he's a clutch receiver. He's got amazing concentration, although he'll drop from time to time. He's unshakable when the pressure builds, which bodes well for a smooth transition to the NFL. He's also pretty darn versatile, he can be a downfield threat but he's happy to be a down and dirty guy, willing to go over the middle, underneathe as a Welker-like checkdown (where I think he'd be really effective), and block. Now like I said, he isn't a physical freak and he's struggled in the wake of his injury, but I love the head he has on his shoulders. His ability to respond to pressure and make up for his physical shortcomings proves he's got a great head on his shoulders. He's scared a lot of folks due to a poor senior season, so he might actually drop to the third round in the actual Draft (but be sure, he's not going to drop past me in this Draft). But I think he's too mentally resilient to stay down for long. Last edited by Direckshun; 03-11-2008 at 11:12 PM.. |

Hrm I don't recall that, I must have missed it.
It's simple as this, he has good hands and catches the ball. But when you aren't the fastest or the biggest and you lack a real great upside teams tend to shy away using high picks on you. He is going to have to get better in his routes or he won't separate from corners in the NFL. |

Yeah, I think that's a fair assessment.
I think he has a future being a Wes Welker-type underneathe, midrange WR. That way the coverage he faces won't be as tight and it will usually be with LBs rather than NFL corners. He's going to have very dependable hands in that situation and he'll only get stronger as the season winds down and the games get bigger. |
