Chicago Bears (Sanka) - B
The Bears have a huge need that have been obvious to everybody under the sun, except apparently the Bears, who with this Draft are marrying themselves to Rex Grossman for yet another year. No, instead of replacing Grossman, they opt for protecting him better with a horrific reach at the bottom of the third in Duane Brown, by giving him a better option downfield with a solid pick on Malcolm Kelly, and providing him a better change-up game at RB with Felix Jones. None of these problems could solve the Rex Grossman canker sore, but they help. Except, of course, the Brown pick, which was just a desperation need pick. Brown shouldn't be off the board after three rounds, and the fact that he is shows how biased this whole board can be towards OT. Credit is due for the Demps pick, as Demps can naturally develop with good coaching into a lethal free safety. Detroit Lions (BigRock) - A Millen deserves a raise if he pulls this off: a top 10er at #15, a 1st rounder in the second round, a second rounder in the third round, and a good bargain deal at the bottom of the third, all filling positions of need? Drafts like this don't exist anywhere, much less for the blind-mice ownership in Detroit. Clady will man their LT competently for a decade, Flowers is a dynamic force in the secondary, Wheeler is an instant upgrade at MLB, and Ray Rice should flourish as the Lions' air attack becomes more and more feared. It's really hard to improve this selection of players. Pittburgh Steelers (milkman) - F I've made fun of milkman ad nauseum in this thread for these picks, so I'll keep this short. Two guards with your first two picks is a unique way to approach things, but in my opinion it's ass backwards wrong. You can find interior lineman that can hold down their positions entirely on the second day of the Draft, and you shouldn't draft them earlier unless you're convinced they're All Pro. The argument could be made for Brandon Albert in the 1st, but Chilo Rachal would really surprise me if he makes the Pro Bowl. I think he's a good player, but a first day player he is not. Few guards are. Most times, no guards are. Charles Godfrey is a solid pick in the third, but who's even paying attention anymore after the first two rounds were so outrageous? |

BTW, if the Bengals took Roy, it would make it even harder to avoid becoming a Bengals fan. With CJ, TJ and Scheuning, it would be Beavers East. ![]() |

Houston Texans (sfeihc) - C+
You gotta do what you gotta do, and the Texans must find themselves a pass rush on their DL aside from Mario Williams. Was Derrick Harvey the right guy? I think he's overvalued when most people say he belongs in the middle of the 1st, but any DE you're going to get at the Texans' position is going to be overvalued because of how weak this Draft is at the position, so you might as well get the best overvalued guy you can. Derrick Harvey is a fair pick. Terrell Thomas in the 3rd is another fair pick, but like the Harvey pick it doesn't blow me away it just seems like they're going with relatively safe picks at positions of need. Never that bad of an idea, but its straightforward-ness isn't that easy to write about either. I will say this: I felt there were much better players at both Draft spots. Seattle Seahawks (DaKCManAP) - C The Seahawks' selections over the course of the Draft had a pretty high WTF rate with me. I didn't like the DeSean Jackson pick but there's lots of disagreement with me over him so I can understand how the Seahawks would believe he could become a lethal deep threat in the NFL. I don't see it, but it's possible it's there. TE Brad Cottam in the 2nd was a lot weirder for me. I've enjoyed watching Cottam with Tennessee and he played well in the senior bowl, but he doesn't have half the dynacism as a Greg Olsen to warrant such a high pick. Love his size, but I fear his injury history. DT Ahtyba Rubin was ... interesting. He's adept at collapsing the pocket but he's struggled with motivation and fatigue, as people his size usually do. I'm not excited about it. San Fransisco 49ers (bsp4444) - A- For such a lousy season they had last year, there's a chance the 49ers could have a serious recovery with a couple of these picks. James Hardy in the first especially. I don't think the pick is amazing value, as I feel a guy with Hardy's tools and limited questions should be taken where he was. But I do feel it was an intelligent value pick on bsp's behalf. The next two picks were defensive picks, which again I found to be fairly sharp. The 49ers are pathetic on offense, but their defense gave up too many games for that to matter. Campbell is a fair gamble atop the second; if he can get his act together the 49ers may have committed theft. Gooden in the third has some work to do but was yet another smart value pick. All in all the 49ers drafted well, albeit unconventionally. |

Examples of the "much better" players available when the Texans were on the clock, please. I just want to know who is much better that was still on the board to see if I'm missing something, not trying to be a prick.
Nice breakdowns of each teams draft. Last edited by Sfeihc; 03-27-2008 at 04:55 PM.. |

In the first round, you drafted DE Derrick Harvey. Players I believe are better that play a position of need for the Texans:

Thanks for the input, D. Williams would make a good T for a team like the Texans. Otah maybe to big and slow afoot for a zone blocking team. I've always been a fan of UF DE's and Harvey has impressed me often during his days as a Gator. When he was still there and the top 3 DB's were gone, I couldn't pass him up for a finesse T like Williams. I can't pick a WR, Kevin Walter is from my alma mater, so I'd be picking their 3rd or 4th and I like Andre Davis and Jacoby Jones. I'm still trying to figure out how that group only allowed 22 sacks last season.
Plus that pass rush for the Texans will be sick. That will cover some warts in the secondary. |

In that case, I'll go with WR Donnie Avery, Houston
I'm trying to do a couple of things at once, and rushiing through. I quickly glanced through the picks and didn't see Barrett was already gone. Gotta go now. Hope I didn't miss another.
