Teams starting to view McGill as safety.

6'3", 215, but really lacking in the intensity to mirror and hang with athletic WRs on the outside. Plus he looks slow. Makes more sense doing basic scut work in the SS role. |

Yes... makes sense. Has some experience at S and looks better in zone, but is not that good of a tackler... that could be an issue He doesn't look to have the best hips or explosive burst to hang with many wideouts. He definitley has the size and length for S.

He's not slow by any means. In Juco, where he was a First Team All-American, he was purportedly running in the mid-4.3's.
When he runs in the 4.4 range at the combine, the safety talk will cease. The league is filling up with 6'4", 220 lb. receivers and, frankly, there aren't that many CB's available to cover those types of guys. On the field, McGill is fast, huge and has good instincts. Off the field McGill is a solid citizen, team leader and is playing for a family as he's already married with a daughter. Now, he was a safety up until this past season, but his speed and athletic ability dictated a switch to the outside. It will be the same in the pros. Here's some highlights of his Juco time at safety: But I wouldn't worry too much about it Direckshun. He's going to be long gone before the Chiefs pick in the third. With the recent success of Seattles "big D-back" sets, his soon to be excellent Combine results, he won't be there after Round 2 or very early Round 3. Teams aren't going to pass over a potential Richard Sherman type player after this past season. That being said, if he's there in the third, he'd look pretty darn good staying in Red as a free safety. |

I completely agree he'll be gone on the 2nd day.
I just absolutely hate his game. He's got great length, but he looks damn near lackadaisical on the field. But, I've been watching him as a corner. Maybe you're dead right and he'll make a better safety. A single-high safety, though? You think he could man that spot that way we'd need him to? |

And remember, this was his first time playing CB. He was initially at safety at Utah before he got injured in 2012. But his athletic ability really forced them to play him outside. He's very long, has huge hands, has good burst and covers a lot of ground quickly. I think he'd be ideal for it actually. |

McGill just looks like Sean Smith 2.0 to me. Right down to the college he played for.
If/when the light is on, he does his job. But when the light's off, it's bombs away. |

McGill has a safety's mentality and was trying to make that switch to CB this past season. But he's a very good player with a tremendous amount of upside. If you think McGill has problems in tackling, go watch HaHa Dix or Ty Zimmerman - two players I think are very good prospects, but they don't tackle any better (and I'd say worse) than McGill does. Personally, I though McGill played pretty solid this past season, especially considering the position change. The UCLA game he covers his man very well, plays the ball and keeps guys in front of him rather than trailing. I'm not sure what your seeing when you say he's lacadasical. |

He has better tape than SJB does. Neither of them looked like they were particularly good players though; certainly not worth anything higher than a 3rd to me, and that's on potential alone.

I wonder if that is still the case after his official 4.51 forty at the combine

McGill also put up a ridiculous 39" vertical and a 10'9" broad jump while being 6'3" and 215 lbs with 33 1/4" arms and 10 1/4" hands. He's going to need to be coached up a bit for the CB position, but the intangibles are there in spades. He's absolutely prototype for the new generation of CB's in the NFL. |

Explain to me what's "bad" here. IMO, it's a pretty damn solid game and respective of what he did during the 2013 season, which was his first at the CB spot. (S in Juco and his first year at Utah.) |

Watch the Colorado and BYU games. There is much more bad than good in those two. All teams have to do is run come backs and hooks against him all day. He can't cover those. Those are bread and butter routes and he will be exploited big time in the NFL. Hell, against ASU he plays gunner and even sucks at that. He's just not for me man. He would be a big project. |
