Hypothetical trade scenario....

Do you think the Iggles would trade their #20 and 27 draft picks this year and next year's 1st round draft pick for our #3 and Larry Johnson?

This might be a win/win situation for both teams. The draft picks would probably come out to the same value approximately. We get rid of Larry Johnson while at the same time get a couple of much needed first round draft picks. The Iggles get their two most pressing needs as they make one more run for the Superbowl, a running back and (presumably) a star WR in Crabtree.

I can't imagine Larry Johnson carries any trade value at all now. They'd be trading 3 first round draft picks for a headcase and a top-5 salary to a rookie. Doesn't sound very Eagle-esque to me.

The #3 pick has a value of 2200 points.

The #20 pick has a value of 850
The #27 pick has a value of 680

Assuming the Iggles make it to the NFC Championship game, thier pick would be worth 620 points

2200 points vs 2150? And getting LJ? They are $25M under the cap, they can take his salary.

I think all future firsts have the same value, i.e. "undetermined first rounder"

you can't assume a team will go to the super bowl just to lower the value of next year's pick.

and they might have cap space for LJ's salary, but they don't have the patience for his bullshit. I doubt many do. He'll get cut and sign a minimal deal somewhere. If he were a baseball player, no one would give him more than a minor-league contract.

I think it is safe to assume that the Iggles won't be picking in the upper half of the draft next year. In that case, worse case scenario, the Iggles lose out on 300 points of draft value...still the equivalent of a 3rd rounder....

I bet the same was said about the Browns, Jaguars, Seahawks, and Packers last year.

"Next year's first" has the value of a second rounder, so the points don't even add up. Plus, by trading him, his bonuses are accelerated against our cap.

We need to rebuild the team, we need draft picks. So yeah, the Iggles get a little better deal, but not that much. Like I said, whether we trade him or we cut him, Larry's bonuses are going to be accelerated against our cap. He isn't going to be a Chief next year, period--his bonuses are going to be accelerated one way or another.

You can throw the chart out.

This isn't the kind of move the eagles would make, history says. They get rid of players like LJ, they don't bring them in. They look for upside guys. Owens is the obvious exception to this, but LJ is not the kind of dominant player he was, and 30 isn't the same thing for a WR that is for a RB.

In any case, they needed to trade LJ 2 years ago. His value now is next to nothing. I wouldn't be entirely shocked to see him cut outright.
