Offense v. Defense using comparable stats

We keep hearing from some on here how the Chiefs are the 28th ranked offense. In the same breath the people defend the defense by saying "they only gave up X points".

Okay so fair enough, but not really. Let's look at like for like.

Scoring offense (because points are what matters)
Chiefs are 19th. Not 28th

Scoring defense (because points are what matters)
Chiefs are 5th - very good

now compare the same stat that people like to tout as 28th ranked offense..yards per game

Yards Per Game Offense:
Chiefs are 24th

Yards Per Game Defense:
Chiefs are 25th

So pick your poison but keep it consistent on both sides of the ball

Imagine the easy TD catch on that first drive, 2nd down, over the middle. If Kelce just makes the easy catch and lunges forward, that's 6 (7) more points.

We got the FG, so 4 more. But yeah, that was bad.

Good post. Too many people (with an agenda) use yards to judge offense and points allowed to judge defense. Apples and oranges.

So your defense of the offense is to emphasize the fact that they're below average in points scored while the defense is one of the best in points allowed?

Seriously?!

That's true genious!

No, it's not a defense of the offense. It's people cherry picking stats. But good job not getting the obviously stated in the OP.

I don't give a shit about stats my eyeballs tell me Alex Smith sucks.

I don't enjoy watching him play for my favorite team. At the same time I enjoy many other players on this team to make it worth watching so **** off those who tell me stop watching if I don't like it.

I don't like Alex Smith sucking the life out of this team and that's what he does.

I don't understand why people go to such extremes to try and defend a mediocre QB.

This is a very good question. Everyone can see that this defense has been kicking ass and that the offensive line is somewhat improved and that #10 is a speedster as a weapon so why not use him? Everyone can see that Kelce is the next great TE and is making a name for himself as a stud in the NFL. So why are so many that claim to have football IQ can't see Alex Smith is a lame duck quarterback? He isn't that good. I can't say he is terrible but he isn't that good so that makes him mediocre. This is not something fans can get excited about no matter how hard we try.

WTF do we have to believe in this guy just because Andy Reid and company thinks so? We've seen this story so many times and know the ending well.

This defense has played against some of the best offenses and quarterbacks in the league and on the other hand this offense has played against some of the shittiest defenses this league has to offer. I don't see a wash in that.

Five years straight the Chiefs have been eliminated from an AFC West title. Four years of the same offensive and defensive schemes.

The defense has been responsible for half of the team wins this season and has only been blown out three times in two seasons.

Theyve done their ****ing job.

Now, we have an offensive head coach and handpicked players selected by said head coach at EVERY offensive position. They're not staying on the field consistently enough to put up points. They are not doing their job.

Five years straight of maxing out as a wild card team and not at all a realistic division championship threat.

We deserve better.

The defense has to get off the field before the offense can get on it.
